Umgeni Steam Railway

Umgeni Steam Railway is a non-profit organisation that was formed back in 1982 and run purely by volunteers who have a passion to keep steam and a piece of Durban’s history alive for many generations to experience as well as have a real train ride! We offer trips to the public on the last Sunday of each month with Special trains over holiday periods. One can book on the website:  www.umgenisteamrailway.co.za. Trips start at the old Kloof Station (now Stokers Arms) for a 1 hour ride to the Inchanga Museum and Craft market there after the train returns back to Kloof. It’s definitely a trip back in time.

Umgeni Steam Railway are running a special afternoon sundowner  “Tea and Scones” train this coming Saturday the 29th June as well on Sunday the 30th with a Morning and Lunchtime Train leaving at 08:30 and 12:30.

Trains run from Kloof Station (Stokers Arms) to and from Inchanga Station, on the last Sunday of each month along the edge of the picturesque Valley of a 1000 Hills. Inchanga is a colonial station (built in 1895) & is 45 minutes ride away along the old main line. The line was built in the late 1800`s and is one of the oldest active railway lines in South Africa today.

At Inchanga Station one will find the popular Inchanga Station Craft Market where many hand crafted items can be found. Numerous food outlets help to satisfy the weary traveller.

One can also join the train for the 10:30 departure from Inchanga for Kloof where one can sit down to fine pub fare and an ice cold beer at the Stokers Arms Station Restaurant, and still be in time for the 12:30 train returning to Inchanga.
