Ciao Bella

Do yourself a favour and take a drive down towards the point waterfront to the new development at the end of Point road (now Mahatma Gandhi Road). Keep your eyes open for a little Italian restaurant on the left at number 162, called Ciao Bella. When you see the sign pull your car over and go inside to find yourself in a little cafe-style Italian restaurant, owned by a young Italian lady with a passion for food and exciting flavours.

Whether you visit Ciao Bella for breakfast, (they make the best eggs benedict in Durban, trust me I’ve checked) or lunch, you are not going to be disappointed. All of their breads and pastas are made on site and only the freshest ingredients are used for their ciabatta, antipasti platters, pastas and beautifully crispy pizzas. If you aren’t hungry, pop in for a cup of tea or Illy coffee, served from 8am with delicious home-made biscottis and just enjoy the cafe vibe and watch the passers-by.

If you’re looking for a venue for an event, Ciao Bella has a courtyard out at the back that they hire out with a set-menu option. The courtyard may be a bit of a work in progress at the moment, but it has charm and limitless potential with its shabby-chic feel, set between two old buildings with a gravel floor and vertical gardens. The hope is to extend the restaurant out there eventually, but for now it is the perfect venue for a band or a birthday party.

To experience it for yourself head down to Ciao Bella this Saturday night (22nd June) at 6pm for the Live Unplugged Courtyard Gig, featuring Blake Roberts, Lieutenant Vinyl, Josh Wantenaar and Jenna Fredman.
