Day trip to Shongweni Dam

Published

on

As a photographer, the start of my 2016 adventures began with a day trip to the Shongweni dam with my best friend Kelly… to take some photos of course!  Despite living in Durban for most of my life I had never been to the dam before and as such was really keen to go an explore its beauty.  Armed and ready with a flask of coffee in one hand and my camera in the other, we set off on our adventure!

The dam offers some great activities including canoeing, fishing, rock-climbing and game drives to mention a few. It is approx. 30min from Durban so you could do a day trip or stay overnight and bring your tent along! If you aren’t an outdoorsy person opt for the fully furnished safari tents (already set up for you!) and if you are a “birder” bring your binoculars along as the bird life is abundant!
It really is such a tranquil environment that is sure to relax you after a long week!

We have also heard some great things about the Shongweni Market, hosted every Saturday at the dam. So do look it up and pop in – lots of yummy LOCAL, fresh produce for sale!
My trip to Shongweni Dam will be the first of many planned photography journeys for 2016 – it is my aim to dedicate at least one day of adventure a month to explore and document our beautiful province! I am very excited and look forward to sharing many more adventures with YOU!

I myself have been dying to get up to the Dam for ages. The last time I was there must have been 5years ago easily, maybe more. Shocking I know.

Kids Book Review: Oi Dog

Published

on

This is a series that is a must have for toddlers and early readers.
The words are fairly easy to read, the rhyming gives it a good flow and the repetition of the words will help your little reader remember them as they continue reading the story.

“Not only are the illustrations bright and funny, but it gave us a lot of giggles on the silliness of the story. Oi Frog and Oi Cat are already firm favourites in our household and we are looking forward to expanding our collection with the other titles in the series.

Frog is not happy with the rules stating that Frogs sit on logs and Dogs sit on Frogs! He is switching it up! Frog is going to have to figure out what he is going to sit on if Dogs now sit on Logs… a favourite was Cheetahs sit on Fajitas… the picture was super cute and the expressions on the animals just keep the giggles going!”
