YOUR PERSONAL “MY CHEF” THIS FESTIVE SEASON!

Published

on

Christmas and New Years is literally around the corner and a lot of us modern Durban women (and and men), shudder at the idea of slaving in the kitchen for hours on end. Especially in this heat and humidity!

Apart from this, who wouldn’t want more time to spend with the family this holiday, put the feet up… sit back and relax with a glass of their favourite.

Me! Me… annnd Me!

Or maybe maybe your culinary skills are not up to Master Chef or the in-laws standard. You don’t want to be the one who ruined Christmas or starved your guests on NYE with an overcooked turkey and raw roast potatoes, now do you? If you are looking for an alternate way to impress… I mean, FEED the family this festive season in the comfort of your home, then My Chef has the solution for you!

What’s on offer?

My Chef have carefully designed and prepared a Christmas menu for your enjoyment – orders close 15 Dec folks! But fear not, My Chef still have DAILY menu’s available to order from as well as an awesome NEW YEARS menu on the go! Ordering off their daily menu will save you so much time! Time spent thinking WHAT’S FOR DINNER!? and time saved by not standing in long lines at the shops. By ordering online you feed the family at the click of a button – in your comfy pants and slippers!  Friday’s Grill & Braai Menu has some tasty delights for you: 6 x extra thick beef patties go for R100; 450g bbq marinated pork spare ribs are going for R80 – sounds pretty delish to me! On the Friday Snack Menu you can find meals like 6 x mini lamb and mint pies for R45 – ready to heat and eat! The menu’s are quite extensive from bunnies, to kiddies meals, to nachos and frankfuters! But pop over to their website to see it for yourself!

Effortless Christmas Package

We were treated to the Effortless Christmas Package which (luckily) included heating instructions. You need to take note on each items requirements and if you haven’t had too much wine by this point it should be relatively easy to work out which should go into the oven first and which should go in last. From stuffed turkey to gammon as well as ready chopped potatoes and veg. All I needed to do was pop it all in, hardly breaking a sweat – still looking fab like the PRO I am! Okay, I got some help from my brother-in-law Dom!

My Chef Menu with easy step-by-step instructions

The great thing about this menu is that it includes EVERYTHING you need. At first when reading it I thought that I would need to go out and buy the pumpkin seeds and honey – but these items were included in the packaging so that was a saving grace! The portion size is also decent! We added a few family favorites as sides to the meal and fed 6 adults comfotably with leftovers for work the next day!
My Chef meals: Each item you order comes neatly packaged and pretty much ready for you to pop straight into the oven!

The prep was effortless and the food was super tasty – my favourite had to be, EVERYTHING (lol). My only suggestion would be to par-cook the roast potatoes if you want them to cook a bit quicker in the oven as we found when cooking as per instruction they weren’t fully cooked and so left them in for a bit longer. Thank you My Chef for the wonderful pre-Christmas dinner, we thoroughly enjoyed and will certainly be recommending you to all our lazy… I mean BUSY friends this festive season!

Place your order with My Chef and the only thing you will be worrying about this festive season is if your glass is half empty… or half full.

Thanks for coming out to the East Coast Radio House + Garden Show 2025

There’s no better place to be out and about in South Africa than Durban in winter. Especially this past week and more! It’s school holidays, the horses are racing at Greyville, the surf’s up at Ballito… and it’s the East Coast Radio House + Garden Show at Durban’s Exhibition Centre.

Durbanites came out in their droves – 65 000 of them over the course of nine days – to suss out what the Show’s dynamic theme bright spaces.fresh living had in store for them! The Warmest Place to Be showed off new looks, new colours, new and much-loved brands… and visitors were loving it!

There was something for every member of the family, every day, every evening, on the hour, every hour… and then some! “I thought it was a fabulous Show all round,” said one visitor, “Plenty to see and buy, lots of delicious food, a good place to meet friends, and very well organised. Bring on next year!” Whether basking outside in the glorious Durban sunshine, listening to live music from favourite musos, tucking into something delectable at one of the fab foodie stands, or picking from a packed calendar of crazy events for kids of all ages, we had the holidays sorted!

The East Coast Radio House + Garden Show is renowned for its legendary Big, Better, Bumper Competitions, and this year, winners walked away with a combined prize value topping R300 000! From a kitchen to a cruise to a Business in a Box, there were loads of very happy winners when their names were the chosen ones!

This year saw many stand-out brands on stands, and for the Show’s Judging Team, selecting the best of the best was a battle… from deliciously dark and moody looks from The Kitchen Studio, to fresh, natural and beachy furnishings and furniture from The Patio Warehouse; a contemporary cool kitchen versus a very pretty and appealing one – two looks, one brand, from Woodnet Exclusive Kitchens, Bedrooms and Bathrooms. Outdoors, Craig McAllister, owner of Ikonik Luxury Furniture, was delighted with Durban’s response to his glorious outdoor furniture, as was Ops Manager of Easigrass and Adriya Sports, Charlene Coetzee: “Such a great opportunity to showcase the wide range of Easigrass applications!”

The doors closed this last Sunday on The East Coast Radio House + Garden Show 2025 and, with tens of thousands streaming through the gates, even more foot traffic than last year! Show Director Cairey Baxter-Bruce was delighted with the level of support shown by the exhibitors, the Show’s partners, and, of course, the visitors: “It was clear that exhibitors recognise the value in using the East Coast Radio House + Garden Show platform for their product or services. The support of our Show and buying from our exhibitors and vendors means we – and YOU, the visitor – are supporting local businesses and companies, which is vital for our current economy. We’re also particularly delighted with the range and number of new exhibitors, as well as the high standard of the kitchens, designers and decorators who’ve returned to the Show. In addition, this year, it’s been immensely gratifying that collaborations and organisations like KZNEDTEA, DTIC, and GEPA (Ghana Export Promotion Authority) have chosen to showcase their products and talents here.”

The East Coast Radio House + Garden Show is not simply a highlight on the local calendar, but provides a valuable, annual economic and tourism boost to the city of Durban and the KZN province as a whole. A big, warm thank-you to Durban and KZN for coming out to support local!
