South Jersey Pom-Poms

Band on the Sand at PYC Beach Site

For one night only, enjoy a quirky evening at this year’s Band on the Sand featuring the fabulous South Jersey Pom-Poms on Saturday 21 May at the exquisite setting of the Point Yacht Club Beach Site.

A Durban sunset has never been this magnificent, as you grab a bite to eat, enjoy a few beverages and relish an evening of blues and views. This is the second time the Point Yacht Club has organised a concert on the beach, with all the proceeds raised going to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Durban Station 5.

Concert-goers can enjoy the sultry sounds of Durban’s best kept secret, the South Jersey Pom-Poms, sitting under the stars, with the sound of the ocean lapping up onto the beach. The whimsical band offers a wry and original performance. Their eclectic compositions include Café house tunes in French, Italian and German and blend jazz and blues elements with Eastern European and American folk music.

The Pom-Poms are Be Henwood on vocals and piano accordion, Jochen Zeller on guitar and vocals, Sean Stewart on bass, and Grant Emmerich on percussion. They are joined as always by the unstoppable violinist extraordinaire, Anton Cawthorn-Blazeby, who will be fiddling up his normal brew of magic.

“We can’t wait! I have heard such great reviews about this band, and I think the combination of their quirkiness, mixed with our setting is sure to make it a night to remember. We had such an overwhelming response last year, that we are encouraging people to get their tickets early.” stated Wayne Smith, part of the organising team from the Point Yacht Club.

“The evening is also kid friendly, so families can come down, throw a blanket on the sand and just chill out, truly enjoying Durban at its best this time of year. Bearing in mind it is next to the sea, so be mindful of kids and water. Also bring a jersey in case there is a nip in the air.” continued Smith.

The second Band on the Sand, hosted by Point Yacht Club to raise funds for the NSRI will be taking place on Saturday 21 May at the PYC Beach Site.
Tickets are R160 for adults, ticket price includes a meal and a drink and R80 for kids under 12, ticket price includes a hotdog and a drink. Tickets need to be purchased ahead of time, no door sales on the evening.

Concert starts at 5:00pm.

Please note: No Chinese Lanterns.
