Seeing this adrenalin-fuelled film on the IMAX® screen will ensure you are part of the action

Since opening in November last year, the IMAX® theatre at Ster-Kinekor’s most popular cinema complex – Gateway in Durban – has already played host to a number of popular titles. On Friday, 21 March, Need for Speed will race into the impressive IMAX® theatre, but for one week only. For the ride of your life, make sure you book your tickets now to see this fast-paced, action-packed crime thriller in the most immersive cinematic experience.

The IMAX® release of Need for Speed has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® using proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX’s customised theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie – and part of the non-stop action.

Based on the most successful racing video game franchise ever produced, with more than 140 million copies sold, Need for Speed captures the thrills of the game in a real-world setting – with the added pleasure of watching all the action whizz by on the big screen.

An exciting return to the great car-culture films of the 1960s and ’70s, when authenticity brought a new level of intensity to the action, Need for Speed is a high-octane film that taps into what makes the American myth of the open road so enticing.

The story chronicles muscle car mechanic and street-racer, Tobey (Aaron Paul), fresh from prison, and having been framed by a wealthy business partner, Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). As Tobey sets off on a near-impossible cross-country race against time, his ex-partner, learning of the plan, places a massive bounty on his head at the start of the race. What begins as a mission for revenge proves instead to be one of redemption.

Need for Speed is directed by Scott Waugh, written by George Gatins and John Gatins, and produced by DreamWorks Pictures. The film stars Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots, Ramon Rodriguez, Scott ‘Kid Cudi’ Mescui and Rami Malek.

Seeing Need for Speed in the IMAX® screen promises audiences an immersive cinema experience like no other.
