The Lion King comes to the Botanic Gardens

The Durban Botanic Gardens have become the choice venue for outdoor events in KZN, more specifically aligned with the Old Mutual Music at the Lake Series. After sold out shows featuring Jeremy Loops and Goldfish earlier in the year, the gardens hosts the second of their outdoor cinemas on the 8th July, with a special screening of everyone’s favourite, The Lion King.

Setup amongst the century old trees inside the gardens, this outdoor cinema addition to the Music at the Lake brand has gained significant support over the past 18 months says organizer Stu Berry.

“This will be the third outdoor cinema we have staged, and if early ticket sales are anything to go by, will be the third one that we will sell out. The concept of an outdoor cinema is a hugely popular one globally, with iconic locations such as Hyde Park, Central Park and Kings Park in major cities such as London, New York and Perth staging outdoor cinema screenings crowds in excess of 10 000. It certainly is a new social trend which we have now brought to Durban for the people of Ethekwini and KZN, and their response has been superb.”

The event also features some acoustic local artists playing before the screening of the movie.
Gates open at 16h00, and the movie itself will start at 17h30, with a fully supervised kids zone on site.
Tickets are available via Webtickets, and cost R95 for adults, R80 for kids 8-12, and are free for kids U8.
