Jumping into the Deep End: Jump City – Durban
Photographers: Quinton Meyer, Alistair Nicoll, Carissa Naidoo and Centaine Wood
When we heard about Jump City we thought to ourselves… WE.MUST.DO.IT! What could be more fun than tackling a 10km, 22 obstacle course laid out in our beautiful city!
Shirley Jones attended on behalf of Durbanite and tells us a little about her (awesome) experience:
“Fun, fun and did I mention fun? When first asked to do the Jump City Challenge, I was very reluctant to accept, but… my golly I am so glad I didn’t chicken out. Waking up at the crack of dawn and heading down to People’s Park was challenging on its own. The morning vibe from everyone participating was fantastic and made the whole experience that much more exciting.
When people hear that the challenge is 10km, I think so many feel that they are not fit to do it. Although being fit is an advantage, it’s not a must. The whole event is fun and challenges you to do things you’re not used to. I was beaming throughout the challenge, literally every picture that was taken of me, I was smiling. It was the best feeling in the whole world to finish! I did so many things I never thought I would be able to do.
The race was also about community, people from all walks of life were helping each other over (and under) obstacles. That was the best part, it wasn’t a race, it was just being able to finish and complete obstacles.
Can’t jump off a diving board, or run across water, or do 30 jumping jacks? Then this challenge is definitely for you! Super excited for the night event, I’m certain it will be a lot more fun!”
After hanging on for dear life as we manoeuvred our way across the monkey bars to the finish arch (both sponsored by Peri construction) we received an official medal (thank you) and a few goodies including an ice-cold bottle of BOS Ice Tea. An event is not complete without a prize giving and this was one to remember… STS Sport sponsored some sexy Puma shoes and the best dressed teams (dressing up is encouraged) fought for the prize compliments of Revite with an amazing dance-off!
A special thank you must go to Kent motors who sponsored the much needed water point as well as stage area and to Centaine Wood who came out and took some photos on Durbanites behalf, we really appreciate it – you got some epic shots.
