Our aim is to focus primarily on DURBAN but we are a friendly bunch and I wanted to share the love! Have a read below on the awesome work Greenpop are doing at the Green Village – Rocking the Daisies 2013. Mmm… solar popcorn!!

Maybe it’s time Rocking the Daisies comes to Durban? What do you think?! Leave your comments below.

Greenpop is producing the Green Village at Rocking the Daisies – home of the Hemp Stage, hot music and more.

Greenpop is very excited to announce that we are officially managing the Green Village at Rocking the Daisies 2013. This will be a great space at this popular music festival to relax, have fun, get green and get involved. With an awesome musical line up on the Hemp Stage as well as film screenings, interesting talks, tree-mendous activities and a Reliance carbon offsetting booth, the Green Village is going to be rocking.

Reliance Compost, Hemporium and Greenpop have come together to produce and design the Green Village as well as creating an exciting line-up for the Hemp Stage. Pick n Pay is the official Greening partner of Rocking the Daisies and will be putting up some special surprises in the village among other greening initiatives.

Other partners involved in the Green Village who will be creating special green experiences for all who visit include:

SANCCOB, WWF, Recycle 1st (where you can sign up for residential recycling), 100in1day, Solar Popcorn (mmm!), Oh So Peachy, Bundi Productions, Fry’s vegetarian (come taste some treats), MLT Drives (powering the village with solar power), Eco Painting Installation, JesseJames (getting creative with repurposed wood – come and see!) and more.

Carbon Offsetting:
Reliance will also be hosting a carbon offsetting booth where you can calculate your footprint and compensate for it right there as well as gift a tree or two or three – and you’ll get a free glass of wine too.

Trees for Tickets:
Greenpop has been running the Trees for Tickets initiative that encouraged Daisies punters to raise funds for trees in exchange for free tickets. The first 50 people who raised enough money to plant 10 trees (1 tree = R100) through their individual GivenGain profile (a secure online portal to raise money for trees) got FREE weekend ticket to Rocking the Daisies. All the trees raised will be planted by Greenpop in an under-greened area and each tree gifter will be sent the GPS coordinates of their trees.

Walking the Daisies and planting trees:
100 of the trees raised through Trees for Tickets are being planted on Friday 4 October by the fit and fabulous Walking the Daisies team who will be on route to the festival on foot. They will stop in the community of Mamre where Greenpop and Working for Water volunteers will be waiting for them ready to plant 100 trees.

The Walking the Daisies team will then continue on to the festival.

Walking the Daisies is an annual 2-day 50km environmental hike from Cape Town to Rocking the Daisies supported by Pick n Pay and run by culturetalent.
