Review: Indaba Lodge Richards Bay
An unique and inviting retreat just two hours north of Durban. Indaba Lodge Richards Bay combines the beauty of this warm, lush, subtropical region with the rolling savannah of the many game reserves. Take in the experience of Zulu traditionalism along with tranquil walks on miles of pristine beaches along the TuziGazi Coast.
We recently sent two contributors to experience a weekend away at Indaba Lodge.
“When we walked into the reception area of Indaba Lodge Richards Bay, the first thing that flashed through my mind was that we had entered at least a 4-star hotel, or possibly even a 5-star. The modern, clean decor glinted with elegance. But this newly-renovated 3-star establishment is most certainly the best 3-star hotel I’ve ever come across! The rooms are well appointed with en suite bathrooms, TV, DSTV package, free WiFi, and air conditioning.
Speaking to the General Manager, Mike Oliver, I was impressed to learn that their aim is to be a humble, but a great, hotel – and that they certainly are!
The Trevallys Restaurant is conveniently situated on the ground floor. The meals are beautifully served with a huge spread of buffet-style and a la carte courses. Every taste is catered for so that no guest is left hungry!
The hotel is easily located with its large sign visible from far off.
Within walking distance is the Alkantstrand Blue Flag Beach and several shopping centres and malls are close by. Adjacent to the hotel is The Retreat Spa where couples can enjoy relaxing massages, and various other beauty treatments are on offer.
Above the Spa is the newest addition to the Indaba complex, 6 self-catering apartments. These are ideal for families and also those avid fishermen (and women) who want to stay a little longer to get in some fishing. All your fishing requirements can be found in the anglers shop, Fish Zone, conveniently situated below the apartments. Boats are able to be safely stored in ports and can be washed after trips out to sea. Freezer facilities are provided for storage of bait etc.
There’s a large boardroom as well as a conference room, which provide packages that include snacks and refreshments, lunch, stationery, free wi-fi and secure parking.
We would highly recommend Indaba Lodge, Richards Bay to anyone needing either a holiday, fishing break or business venue, and would be happy to book again should we find ourselves in Richards Bay.”
