REVIEW: Radisson Blu Sandton

Our day in Jozi started off very delayed from the flight landing, to the Gautrain heading to Sandton. Eventually we managed to take our uber from the station and head to our glorious hotel:  Radisson Blu Sandton. The hotel was not a disappointment at all! We were greeted by a friendly valet who took our bags and directed us to reception. (Little may you know, reception is found on the 13th floor, strange right?) It’s a safety precaution, making it a valid reason.

When we arrived at reception, we were greeted by the helpful marketing manager, Bernadine. She definitely made a great impression on representing the hotel itself. After check-in, we were guided to our room – which ended up being on a higher floor. As we entered, we saw a beautiful complimentary basket of cheese and wine waiting for us both! The suite was so enormous, one of the biggest I have seen yet. Our bedroom was encased by glass windows, with an incredible view of Sandton itself.

Exploring the hotel was quite spectacular. A lot of business people were spotted either in the private lounges having meetings or at the restaurant itself. The hotel is in the heart of the city’s upscale business district, and within walking distance of the Gautrain Station, which connects to Johannesburg and the OR Tambo International Airport.

We were lucky enough to have access to the VIP lounge which is found on the top floor. There you will find a private little buffet for breakfast and lunch, with a TV streaming the latest sport. Obviously you could choose to watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians – either way you were sitting in styled luxury.

Lets not forget the delicious international cuisine at Vivace Restaurant in the hotel. With world- renowned chefs cooking up a storm everyday, you can definitely say this place does live up to all expectations. The breakfast buffet is to die for, it has everything – and I do mean everything! From all the different types of sausages, to a smoothie health bar and a sushi buffet. (Yes, you could have sushi for breakfast!) We also dined and enjoyed a dinner at the restaurant where we ordered a pork belly along with a crispy chicken burger – with the excellent service the food was just as good.

We cannot go without saying, if you don’t feel like going to the city and enjoying a good old cocktail. You can always stay at the hotel and enjoy the wide range of cocktails they have at the Vivac Lobby Bar. Just saying, their gin and tonics are quite a pleasant treat, with happy hour from 17:00 – 21:00 pm. If you really want to be outdoors, there’s also the pool deck bar. Here you can chill out by the pool and have a drink as well.

The Radisson Blu is known for is world-renowned quality and luxury. They have been nominated for 2 travel awards and have won a few others as well. Our stay definitely lived up to our expectations and would recommend this place to anyone who visits Sandton, especially if it’s a business trip.
