Indigenous Open Gardens: Kloof Conservancy

The Kloof Conservancy invites nature lovers to celebrate 26 years of Indigenous Open Gardens on Saturday 20 June and Sunday 21 June from 9am to 4pm.
Visitors can explore a collection of beautiful indigenous gardens across Kloof and Assagay while supporting local environmental conservation projects, with all funds raised going directly towards conservation initiatives.
Guests can enjoy indigenous plant sales, food and coffee stalls, garden ornaments, raffle prizes, and the Struik Nature Treasure Hunt for children.
Entrance to the Cliffview complex gardens is R70, while entry to the remaining gardens is R40 per garden.
Children under 12 enter FREE.
This annual event offers a wonderful opportunity to connect with KwaZulu-Natal’s unique flora, fauna, and conservation community in a relaxed outdoor setting.
Here are some simple guidelines we hope will improve your experience on the day:
- Wear sensible shoes – there are areas with cobblestone paving, gravel, wooden decks or slopes!
- There are many interesting/unusual trees to see so bring along a tree book.
- Take a pair of binoculars if you are interested in birds – gardens create habitats which are ideal for birds.
- Plan your comfort breaks before you arrive at the gardens – there are limited toilet facilities only at Gardens 6.
- You are going to be in the sun for much of the day – wear sunscreen and a hat.
- The gardens are “open” but the homes are not – please do respect the owners privacy and do not wander through private spaces.
- Please do not bring any animals (NO PETS) to the gardens.
- The gardeners are all very knowledgeable – do feel free to engage with them as they are more than willing to share their knowledge.
Please be considerate and move on after a while so that others can enjoy the area.
