The Chefs Table Autumn Tasting Menu

Since opening in 2016, The Chefs Table has earned its place as one of the more sophisticated dining experiences in Durban, while remaining contemporary and approachable.

Beautifully designed, with luxurious detail, The Chefs Table offers gracious hospitality, located in the heart of the Umhlanga village.

Award-winning executive, Chef Kayla-Ann Osborn presents a modern, seasonal menu inspired by the best fresh, seasonal ingredients that Kwa-Zulu Natal has to offer. The open plan kitchen is at the heart of the restaurant, allowing diners to watch the chefs at work and feel the connection to the food and the beautifully plated dishes being prepared.

A world-class wine cellar, stocked with unique, vintage wines from South Africa, as well as a selection of International wines, specifically French and New Zealand wines, rank among the noteworthy highlights of the restaurant’s wine programme, headed by the manager of the programme, George Dzubinsky.

We recently paid a visit to The Chefs Table on a Tuesday night, and boy were we in for a treat!

The Chefs’ Table has an all-new 6-course Autumn tasting menu which can be paired with wine. We opted to try this together with the wine pairing because “wine” not?

First up was the pre-starter which was crispy squid with green curry, lemon ricotta and cashew, paired with a 2017 Cape Point Sauvignon Blanc.

For our second course, we were served (my favourite) pork belly and mussels with pickled kohlrabi served in a bacon sauce. HEAVENLY! We paired this together with a divine 2015  Credo Chardonnay.

Following that was our 3rd course for the night – the angus beef carpaccio, smoked bone marrow, anchovy with leek ash and parsley. We moved onto red wine, trying a 2014 Idiom Sangiovese together with this meal.

For our 4th course we had the local chicken thigh press with miso, shimeji and shitake custard. This was enjoyed together with a glass of the 2014 Morgenster Merlot.

And now for the last main course before ending off with dessert, we had the glazed lamb belly together with mint jelly and horseradish. We ended the meal off with a delicious glass of the 2017 Longridge Pinotage.

The grand finale… The dessert! I was most excited to see and taste the dessert as I’ve always heard how The Chefs’ Table surprises you here, and WOW, we certainly weren’t dissapointed!

We were greeted with a delightful display of forest floor truffle, with black garlic, curry leaf, popcorn and chocolate!
