A cold black and white evening was warmed up when we walked through the doors of the Canelands Beach Club, greeted with a glass of sparkling wine, a beautiful setting and a starter of crispy tempura prawns. The staff were incredibly friendly and guided us to the pool deck where we enjoyed a few more drinks and admired the breathtaking ocean view. The occasion you ask? The official opening of Two Shrimps Restaurant, Salt Rock… fittingly located at No. 2 Shrimp Lane (no getting lost!)
The jazzy voice of Chloe Clark was literally music to our ears as we entered the Two Shrimps restaurant. We were seated and shared the same earlier view but now with heaters, blankets and wine – the ladies were warm. The evening began with the owner sharing the history of the hotel and the inspiration to start the restaurant.
We then began our journey through the five course meal and wine for the night. The food was full of flavour and the wine pairing for each meal was spot on. My stand-out course had to be dessert. An apple orchard. Mini toffee apples(see menu below for more info. on the courses).
My conclusion of the opening night at Two Shrimps:
Location 9/10
Amazing view from the swimming pool deck of the north coast shoreline.
Food 7,5/10
Full of flavour but it just lacked that X factor.
Wine 7/10
Selection for the pairing was good but was disappointed that I didn’t get to taste the port. I also feel the main course could have been paired with something with a bit more body.
Service 7/10
Service was very good at the beginning of the night and the manager checked with us a few times but the service was very slow as the night progressed. I guess you can expect that on a opening night though.
Overall a 7,6/10 a good dining experience and a great location. I will be back for some fine dining.
