Sharing cookies, spreading cheer
14 July 2014, Cape Town, South Africa – The National Cookie Swap 2014, an annual charity feel-good event that is now in its fourth year is aiming to place Learn to Earn and their Baking for Profit programme in the spotlight by raising funds for them.
This year’s DURBAN event takes place on Saturday, 2 August 2014, 10:00 for 10:30 at the Quarters Hotel, Avondale Road..
This fund-raising initiative gives bakers, novice cooks and others the opportunity to swap homemade cookies and spread cheer. All attendees will go home with a stack of cookies and will have contributed to social empowerment.
How does it work?
An entrance fee is charged at R50 for bakers and R100 for non-bakers, at the door.
All swappers should let the organisers know of their intention to participate via the Facebook page: RSACookieSwap
Monies raised through the entry fees and the auction of sponosored prizes will be donated to Learn to Earn.
Who will benefit this year?
All proceeds of Cookie Swap 2014 will go to Learn to Earn’s Bake-for-Profit arm (www.learntoearn.org.za). Learn to Earn is a skills development and job creation organisation, having created employment opportunities for more than 10 000 people to date.
Well-known travel and food writer and founding organiser of the National Cookie Swap, Ishay Govender-Ypma (www.foodandthefabulous.com) says, “The idea is to create an opportunity where bakers can gather in a fun, relaxed environment to share their efforts. We try to highllight the work of a lesser known NPO or skills organisation to this group of social influencers. In this way, bloggers and their friends can lend their support and make a financial contribution, particularly towards other women.”
The event is held across the country and new hosts who share the Cookie Swap vision are welcomed.
