NEW TORCH TECHNOLOGY FOR ADVENTURERS: DON’T BE LEFT IN THE DARK
Experiencing the most beautiful sunrise or sunset is a key attraction for many adventurers, whether it’s from the top of Cathedral Peak in the Drakensburg or at a caravan park overlooking the Indian Ocean. These outdoor experiences are meant for those of us who want so desperately to get away from the city lights. However, as much as one wants to be immersed in nature, a torch light is essential from sunset to sunrise.
While some die-hard types declare that they could pitch a tent, or untie fishing tackle in the dark – most would agree that it is far easier when you can shed some light on the matter. Many adventure sports and outdoor activities begin in the dark or end after dusk, making it critical to have a torch light from a safety and practical point of view.
For the discerning outdoor adventurer wanting to keep up to date with the latest advances in equipment, the question is what is the latest in torch light technology?
“Outside of the conversion to Light Emitting Devices (LED) from incandescent, the world of flashlights has been somewhat stagnant,” said Rashmi Vadivelu, senior brand manager for Energizer® South Africa. “We wanted to push the boundaries in light technology and put much more than a simple light into the hands of our customers. After extensive consultation with our consumers on what is important to them, Energizer has developed a unique new innovation using Light Fusion Technology that takes portable lighting to the next level.”
The Energizer 2 in 1 Standing Light distributes LED light by mixing it with hundreds of tiny lazer-etched dots called Light Fusion Elements. The light is emitted on both sides of the torch panel, creating a brighter light which is evenly distributed and easier on the eye.
The sleek body of the 2 in 1 Standing Light has also been designed for the multipurpose requirements of a user requiring high functionality. The torch can operate as a normal hand held flashlight or its legs can fold out to provide a sturdy base, much like the monkey grip tripod products used for stabilising cameras.
“When having to change a flat tyre on a 24 hour adventure cycle race, one needs both hands for the job. The beauty of the compact 2 in 1 Standing Light is that it can stand alone and give the user maximum use of both hands while providing excellent, directed light as required,” said Vadivelu.
The pivoting head of the torch allows easy directional aim for light required in specifically dark areas.
When planning a camping trip, there must be peace of mind knowing that whatever the weather you will have a reliable, strong light. The compact torch, which uses runs on readily available AA batteries is weatherproof, withstands a one meter drop and has a 20 hour run time. With this extensive run time, replacement batteries need not weigh you down on a weekend hiking trip. However, if you were concerned about running out of battery power, the flashing light warns that battery life is running low. While it can be used outdoors, it is also safe to use inside a tent.
The 2 in 1 Standing Light is the compact choice for the hiker with limited space in a backpack, while the Folding Lantern provides the same Light Fusion Technology in a sleek form suitable for the relaxed camper wanting to light up a larger area and less concerned about space constraints.
The Energizer Fusion Folding Lantern and 2 in 1 Standing Light will be available from C.U.M, Makro, Outdoor Warehouse, Pick n Pay, Sportsmans Warehouse and selected Game stores from the beginning of March this year.
