Die-hard Mad Max fans will be thrilled to know that the fourth instalment in the successful franchise, Mad Max: Fury Road,is getting the full-on IMAX® 3D treatment this month. The second title releasing in IMAX® during May is the new Disneyaction adventure film, Tomorrowland.
Both these must-see films will be screened in IMAX® theatres at Ster-Kinekor’s cinema complexes at Gateway in Durban, The Grove in Pretoria East and the recently-opened Cape Gate in Cape Town, from Friday 15 May and Friday 22 Mayrespectively, in line with the films’ global releases.
Ster-Kinekor will also be spoiling you with pre-release screenings of Mad Max: Fury Road on Thursday, 14 May at all IMAX cinemas for the 17:30 and 20:15 shows. So make sure you book your tickets now!
The IMAX® releases of both the post-apocalyptic action film, Mad Max: Fury Road, and the action adventure,Tomorrowland, have been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® using proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX’s customised theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
Tomorrowland has also been specially formatted by the director, Brad Bird, allowing the film to fill more of the IMAX screen at a 1.9:1 aspect ratio – showing up to 16% more of the image. The result provides you with a full panoramic view that fills your peripheral vision more than any other cinematic experience.
Mad Max: Fury Road in IMAX 3D (releases 15 May)
From director George Miller, originator of the post-apocalyptic genre and mastermind behind the legendary “Mad Max” franchise, comes Mad Max: Fury Road, a return to the world of the Road Warrior, Max Rockatansky.
Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by Imperator Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) stars in the title role in Mad Max: Fury Road – the fourth in the franchise’s history. Oscar winner Charlize Theron (Monster, Prometheus) stars as Imperator Furiosa. The film also stars Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Days of Future Past) as Nux; Hugh Keays-Byrne (Mad Max, Sleeping Beauty) as Immortan Joe; Josh Helman (X-Men: Days of Future Past) as Slit; Nathan Jones (Conan the Barbarian) as Rictus Erectus; collectively known as The Wives, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (Transformers: Dark of the Moon) is The Splendid Angharad, Riley Keough (Magic Mike) is Capable, Zoë Kravitz (Divergent) plays Toast the Knowing, Abbey Lee is The Dag, and Courtney Eaton is Cheedo the Fragile.

Tomorrowland in IMAX (releases 22 May)
