If you want to show your mom just how much she means to you this Mother’s Day, you could go with the usual gifts like flowers, chocolates or maybe even breakfast in bed. However, if you want to make the day more special, you could get the family together, pack a picnic basket and treat her to a beautiful afternoon of music at the Durban Botanic Gardens on Sunday, 8 May.
The Old Mutual Music at the Lake’s traditional Mother’s Day concert is back this year with a line-up of stirring performances by South Africa’s most notable rock star Arno Carstens and Durban based songbird, Chloe Clark. Arno will be backed by the 50-strong KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The picturesque Botanic Gardens provide the perfect intimate setting for this spectacular collaboration, which combines the beautiful light and symphonic classics of the philharmonic orchestra under the baton of conductor Gerhard Geist, with the popular and contemporary style of the rock muso.
“The Mother’s Day concert is a firm favourite with lovers of the Old Mutual Music at the Lake series and we are proud to be a part of this tradition,” says Old Mutual Sponsorship Manager Bandile Mngoma.
He adds that “the series not only brings families together but also contributes towards maintaining and improving the biodiversity of this important public botanical space. Proceeds go towards an innovative people and plant development programme, which involves community members growing trees to support their livelihoods.”
Chloe Clark, who launched her EP earlier this month, is no stranger to the South African music scene. Her exceptional vocal attributes have recently seen her wow audiences of the local singing competition The Voice, and also making it into the Top 30 of Idols SA in 2014. Her dynamic presence has seen her share the stage with international artist Ronan Keating and perform in numerous theatres across Durban.

My Mom is #Fabulous ????She is my inspiration, that I look up too in so many ways, she is a strong women with so much confidence. MOM is a best friend. Thanks for always being there for me and for all the others that you are there for. She always has me laughing and is full of fun. No matter when or what she is always there for me. She is #KillerAwesome #GreatWomen #Fabulous #Respect #mothersday My Mom taught me to be kind to myself, to let go of my perfectionist nature when it comes to doing things the “right” way, according to plan. She taught me to always be open minded about new or different ways of doing things. She taught me the importance of family dinners and holiday traditions. She taught me how to make cookies from scratch. She taught me how to sooth teething gums on my baby. The best thing that she taught me is that you never too old to hug your Mom and tell her that you Love her.❤????????????????

My mom is the best because she let me (who isn’t the most responsible 22 year old out there) take her 4×4 car to mozambique last weekend.
