The Gooderson Kloppenheim Country Estate Hotel – Review

The Gooderson Kloppenheim Country Estate Hotel is a luxurious hotel for all families who are in need of a fun filled holiday or mini-break.

The hotel is located in Machadodorp in the Highlands Meander approximately two and a half hours outside of Johannesburg. Kloppenheim is made up of standard hotel rooms and Lakeside type chalets, which in my opinion, are a must if you’re going to visit the hotel. The additional cost for the chalets is completely justified. Self-catering chalets are available, but not advisable, as the hotel food is absolutely amazing and if you’re taking a break, take a break form cooking too.

Kloppenheim prides itself in being a Country Hotel so there are loads of outdoor activities for all the family members. Please be aware that your little sports car may not handle the last 7 km’s of the journey to the hotel as this is a dirt road and during the rainy seasons, the road will be very bumpy.

All the rooms at Kloppenheim are magnificently decorated and well stocked for all your needs.

The beds, bedding and towels are of top quality and the rooms boast underfloor heating, heaters, bathroom heaters and DSTV (including an Mnet family channel and sports channels) in each room. WiFi is accessible in the rooms, but at an extra cost.

The Lakeside Chalets are luxurious and extremely spacious, boasting a lounging area, a patio, a gas powered fireplace and an interlocking door to the adjacent chalet, making a space away from the adults for the kids which is within immediate reach.

We were additionally massively impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms and the efficiency of the cleaning staff!

The Lakeside Chalets do offer self-catering in a few units, but we recommend taking full advantage of a divine menu and excellent service in the dinning rooms. All of the breakfast options are fantastic (including a buffet of breads, jams, cereals, yogurt and fruit) and the chef’s egg options are delicious. The lunch menu is not vast, but delicious! We recommend the burgers which are juicy and generously portioned. With the Al la cart dinner menu, you can expect a great variety of delicious options. We were not overly impressed with the desserts, but the wine selection is great and a perfect substitution for dessert!

The hotel has a small sports bar for all big games and includes an indoor play areas for the kids.

The amount of indoor and outdoor activities available for the children seem endless. From a petting zoo, fishing, hors-riding, archery, to foosball and table tennis, jungle gyms, trampolines and a miniature golf course, they have it all! Kloppenheim additionally sets up daily activities for the children during the big holiday seasons.

Kloppenheim houses a La Vita spa, which is delightful! The spa is very well equipped and the treatments, products and packages are very reasonably priced. Excellent conferencing and wedding venues are available and the wedding packages are incredible. The picturesque views would be the ideal setting for your special day.
On a final note, the staff at Kloppenheim are incredibly friendly, professional and competent. We experienced impeccable service from everyone we encountered and had a wonderful weekend away.
A special thank you must be said for the welcoming presence and the special spoils we received. We will be visiting Kloppenheim again very soon, that’s for sure!

Want to stay in the heart of Cape Town? Here’s why The Cape Milner should be your go-to.

For Durbanites, a trip to Cape Town is always enthralling. White-sand beaches, throngs of restaurants, and sea life sightings are just some of the things we look forward to when visiting our Mother City. Of course, the various accommodation on offer forms part of said hype – and can either make or break your experience!

Well, we’re here to tell you this: If you’re looking for a hotel that’s contemporary, comfy, central, quiet and not too costly, we’ve found the place for you. Not to mention its fascinating decor, great hospitality, and luxury charm that just wraps you up and keeps you snug throughout your entire stay.

The opulent Cape Milner building matches Cape Town’s Victorian aesthetic. But inside you’ll find a mix of art-deco, modern and African chic; much like the feel of modern Africa today.

As if wedged at the bottom of Table Mountain, the views from the rooms and lounges are spectacular. We particularly enjoyed dining out in the swanky Glass Lounge, where you can look up into the blue sky or night stars while you enjoy a hearty lamb shank below.

Our homely rooms overlooked the serene Milner Road, with its impressive avenues of trees. We were given complimentary macarons on arrival and enjoyed them with tea as we watched the rain pitter-patter on the tails of unbothered squirrels — how cute! The Milner Hotel really is a place you can enjoy come rain or shine.

The hotel was the absolute, perfect base from which to explore pretty much everything and anything. Just a few minutes drive away lies Bree and Kloof  – two favourites, Metropolitan streets for tourists and locals alike. Over the few days of our stay we visited many great spots, all within 5-10 minutes away.

We sank our teeth into cheesy pizza at the much-hyped “I love the dough” and tried out “Mochi Mochi” for dessert; we ordered fizzing and steaming cocktails from “Cause and Effect” at the V&A; and of course, we spent a fun-filled evening at the cheeky and illustrious “Beefcakes” in Green Point.

After each jam-packed day, coming home to our state-of-the-art bathtub and luxurious linen was the cherry on top. It fitted in perfectly with our diverse range of activities we had planned, and matched the entire style of our trip.

We didn’t want to leave!

And of course, we can’t wait to stay again…
