Situated in the heart of Johannesburg’s northern suburbs, Riboville is nestled within the prestigious Waterfall Equestrian Estate. A five-star destination perfectly located in proximity to the city and only a five-minute drive from the Mall of Africa.
Riboville’s boutique hotel, conference venue and restaurant is the perfect blend of urban luxury in a country setting.
Overlooking a lush polo field and tranquil dam which attracts bird life all year round. Located in an equestrian estate, Riboville’s lavish double-volume barn design, echoes this setting with the equestrian-themed art and decor.
Riboville offers a unique rural respite from the stresses of city life.
Durbanite had the pleasure of staying a night at Riboville.
“Arriving at Riboville, you felt as if you were transported into another world. As the gates opened, with what was the concrete jungle of Johannesburg was simply transformed into beautiful greenery. Ducks were swimming in ponds and horses were walking around… It was truly bliss.
Built to feel like as if you were in a stable, we entered the reception area of Riboville and were greeted by Barry, the hotel’s manager. He offered us drinks and escorted us to a waiting area while our booking was being prepared.
After our drinks were finished, Barry kindly showed us to our room for the night. We were told we had a suite on the top floor facing the field which made for beautiful sunset views.
We walked into our room and immediately I fell in love.
Barry showed us where we would witness the most beautiful sunrise and sunset from the balcony.
We could see now why Riboville is the place to be!
After we settled in, we took a stroll around the hotel and outside to where there were horses being ridden. Coming from Durban, we felt as if we were in the beautiful countryside of the Midlands!
Riboville truly felt like a magical destination, and one would never think we were in the concrete jungle.
For dinner, we opted for room service purely so that we could sit in front of the balcony in our own room. This is fantastic for couples who prefer to dine without the hassle of getting ready and going out.
Nick chose to have the rib-eye steak while I chose to have a beef fillet, accompanied by a lemon meringue dessert.
The food was incredibly delicious as we enjoyed a romantic dinner for two with the most beautiful view.
Riboville also hosts a Jazz and Lunch event on the first Sunday of every month. Visitors can enjoy a delectable three-course lunch out on the rolling lawns whilst swaying to the sounds of contemporary jazz bands. Pre-bookings are essential for this monthly event and it is already set to become a definite ‘brag factor’ calendar item for discerning Jo’burgers.
All in all, we had a lovely stay in Riboville and wish we could have stayed longer!
We would like to make special mention of the service at Riboville during our stay. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to ensure our stay was great.”
THE HISTORY BEHIND RIBOVILLE:
Everyone loves a good story, and even more so when the story is real and results in something magical. As at 1 April, Tinstwalo at Waterfall will become known as Riboville. This well-known establishment, set in the natural countryside just a short drive north of Johannesburg, has been acquired by successful entrepreneur and restauranteur of the Codfather fame.
A culmination of a ‘dream-come-true’, George Sinovich, who has always had a passion and love for the hospitality and food industry, will take over the reins at the newly branded world-class boutique hotel, conference venue and restaurant.
The Sinovich’s incredible story began in 1974 when a bet placed on a horse called Riboville, who was 20-1 outsider to win in the Durban July, turned out to be just the right bet, when through a series of extraordinary events, the horse romped to the finish line four lengths ahead of the nearest rival, a feat which has never been matched. This extra-ordinary win turned out to be a crucial financial windfall to the Sinovich family, a family who have transformed through the generations from farmers to land developers, to restauranteurs and now hospitality provider with an instinctual eye for excellence. Their new five-star stable is not only about betting on a good business horse, it is something symbolic of the spirit of this family. A soul of success and the stamina it takes to transform intangible luck into a true fortune.
It is, for this reason, the establishment at Waterfall will be known simply as Riboville.
The family’s legacy is one that echoes a sense of striving with a touch of very good timing and by always having a dream and a sense of vision to identify opportunities that others may not see, the purchase of this equestrian establishment is steeped in the Sinovich family destiny.
Talking at a recent business breakfast about his new acquisition, George had this to say. “After building successful and reputable restaurant businesses (The Codfather) and operating in hospitality for decades, the opportunity to purchase this world class establishment and transform it into a real winner is not only about an investment, it is about true inspiration. Inspiration, at a point in history where the triangle of timing, chance and opportunity have come together again to change the future. We are looking forward to delighting our guests at Riboville and we can’t wait to get going!”
Whilst Riboville has some exciting plans to enhance the establishment in the near future, it is proud to continue to deliver five-star accommodation in its 16 spacious suites, diverse and luxurious meeting spaces in fully serviced, well-equipped conference rooms and an exclusive boardroom, and culinary experiences second to none.
