Less than a week is what separates you from your next exceptional wine experience. The TOPS at SPAR Wine Show is back in Durban from Thursday 9 to Saturday 11 May at The Globe at SUNCOAST, and you’re invited to taste and explore a ‘Winederland’ of ti(tannic) proportions! A fresh and flirty burlesque theme awaits visitors, accompanying the variety of new and returning estate and winery exhibitors, and a wine-packed programme of edutainment.
The show remains an invaluable opportunity to expand your knowledge of wine in all its glory, with interactive, educational presentations in the #SAWineShowcase Theatre by the much-loved John Meinking, a legend in the wine industry, including wines from Delheim, Hermanuspietersfontein and Beyerskloof to name a few.
If you’ve ever wondered how your vino got its shade, or if the cork truly is superior to the controversial screw-cap, then the Wine Theatre is where you’ll find answers, and much more. The SPAR Group’s private label, Olive Brook, will be showcasing their two new ranges, Everyday and Terroir, in a talk on ‘Complex but not Confusing’.
In addition to this, the show will be bustling with exciting activities, as the Wine Label Design Awards presented by Rotolabel celebrate the art of ‘putting a face to the taste’, while the ‘Search for a Supertaster’ sends visitors (from casual wine lovers to passionate aficionados) on a tasting challenge in the South African Wine Tasting Championships – with the winning taster set to join the SA Wine Tasting Champs on their upcoming overseas trip.
Proving that “local is lekker,” a selection of estates from several wine-producing regions will be taking part in the show. Over 35% of all the exhibitors are new to the Durban show and these include wines from Kanonkop, Diemersfontein, Spier, Ken Forrester and The Wellington Wine Route. Comments Debbie Combrink, CEO of the TOPS at SPAR Wine Show, “We welcome back farms such as Raka, Stellenbosch Vineyards, Slanghoek and Vrede en Lust to name a few. Expanding on last year’s boutique wine offering, visitors to the show can look forward to an additional seven producers in this category.”
This year, the Durban leg of the TOPS at SPAR Wine Show will take place within the brand-new dome-like structure at Suncoast, aptly named ‘The Globe’. This massive, experiential venue arrived at the Tsogo Sun property near the end of last year, offering a dynamic indoor space, ideally suited to the size and scale of the wine extravaganza.
The ‘Winederland’ Tour kicks off in Durban from 9 to 11 May, followed by Johannesburg from 6 to 8 June, Cape Town from 11 to 13 July, Port Elizabeth from 25 to 27 July, Pretoria (which is making a welcome return to the tour schedule) from 3 to 5 October, East London (the latest addition to the tour) from 7 to 9 November, and ending off in Nelspruit from 28 to 30 November.
