FEATURING JAMES MARTIN, MS CUPCAKE AND INDIAN FOOD MAESTRO’S ANJALI PATHAK AND VIVEK SINGH
**WIN WIN WIN**
COMPETITION CLOSED
Winners will be chosen on the 31st July *T&C’s Apply.
It’s the tastiest date on the South African foodie calendar and an event where trends are born. The new look Good Food & Wine Show comes to Durban from August 8 to 11 and is bang on with what’s hot and fabulous in food and cooking fashions.
Celebrity chefs appearing at the Durban show this year are TV personality James Martin who is a regular face on South African television; Vivek Singh of LondonĆ¢ā¬ā¢s Cinnamon Club who has transformed the face of Indian cooking; Anjali Pathak, an exciting talent in the Indian food and spice arena and part of the famous Patak spice family and vegan baker Mellissa Morgan who is known to her legions of fans around the world as Ms Cupcake.
James Martin is now arguably the premier foodie on British television. However, the Yorkshireman is down-to-earth, particularly when it comes to getting people into the kitchen and cooking: “People sometimes get so wrapped up about the detail of cooking. To me, it should really be the whole package. Cooking should be about great food with good people. I’m delighted to be coming to Durban and can’t wait to meet visitors to the show.”
Vivek Singh’s award-winning food has established The Cinnamon Club as probably the most famous Indian restaurant in the world. Vivek is also one of the most articulate Indian chefs of his generation. He explains his concept of Indian food: “In my experience of cooking Indian cuisine, I have come across numerous examples of authenticity as a reason for not doing things rather than trying something different. I wanted to free Indian food from the strait-jacket of tradition and, in order to do so, it was important to push the perceived boundaries beyond what was considered to be authenticĀ
Says Anjali Pathak: “I have learnt most of what I know about Indian cooking from my family and professional Indian chefs across the world. I have travelled around most of India trying to absorb the nuances of regional cuisines. For me this does not just relate to Indian cuisine, but to cooking in general, and so I decided to study at Leiths School of Food and Wine in London. Some may say what does an Indian chef need to learn British and French cooking for?! But I love bridging the gap between traditional Indian and contemporary international cuisine. Spices are some of the most exciting ingredients to work with and when you have mastered the basics, all you need to do is practice and find what you like best. In the end cooking is about having fun in the kitchen and trying not to lose control! I also like to prove that Indian food is healthy and it is not only about rich sauces and curries. I am delighted to be coming to South Africa for the first time; it is something I have always wanted to do.”
Larger-than-life Ms Cupcake is out to show visitors to the show that everybody can eat cake, regardless of allergies: “Everybody deserves great cake. It is my job to create indulgent and decadent cakes for them regardless of what they can, and cannot eat. I want to bring “free from” cake to the masses.Ā My team and I do this through baking incredible cakes, raising the profile of a vegan diet and educating people on how they can create “free from” cakes for themselves.”
Locally sourced food and children’s nutrition are the leading trends in 2013, according to the US National Restaurant Association’s annual “What’s hot 2013 chef survey”Ā and the Good Food & Wine Show is bang up-to-date with these global predictions. It will present two new theatres in Durban this year – the Little Chefs Kitchen and The Real Food Theatre, a fully interactive experience covering sustainability and home grown produce.
The Good Food & Wine Show is more interactive than ever before, the whole family can interact with local and global foodie personalities who are showcasing their culinary skills while exhibitors have the opportunity to communicate directly with their target market.
The Good Food & Wine Show is being partnered with Fiera Milano, the world’s leading Exhibition Company. This is the recipe for all that’s fabulous in the kitchen! Don’t miss it.

MS CUPCAKE
Mellissa Morgan, aka Ms Cupcake, is a vegan baker and chef who prides herself on her ability to transform basic ingredients into vegetarian and vegan masterpieces. Originally from Canada and now based in the UK, she describes her baking as classic North American with a British flavour twist. All of her unique recipes contain absolutely no animal products so are entirely vegan. ĆĀ Mellissa began baking from home when she couldn’t find indulgent bakery goods for vegans in London. She soon realised that it wasn’t just vegans she could cater for, but also those with food allergies or religious dietary requirements. She began to develop gluten free, soya free and even sugar free cakes, and after opening London’s first entirely vegan retail bakery in April 2011, she was named the Baking Industry Awards Rising Star of 2011.
Mellissa first appeared as an amateur on ITV’s Britain’s Best Dish and has since made appearances on Islam TV and Sky News. Her latest TV appearance as a contestant on the ITV show Britain’s Best Bakery won her a whole new set of fans, following praise from the judges for her fantastic tasting vegan cupcakes. Mellissa has completed the first Ms Cupcake baking book, to be published in May 2013 by Random House.
ANJALI PATHAK
Anjali Pathak is the new face of the family which, thanks to her grandfather, took Indian curries to supermarket shelves around the world. She is the culinary expert and brand ambassador for the Patak’s brand.
Being part of such a well recognised family, Anjali has always been determined to make a name for herself in her own right and is a respected chef and has also been shortlisted for a number of awards including Asian Women of Achievement Awards and First Women Awards for her work with Indian food and flavours. Anjali loves all aspects of food and so has also explored her field further by gaining qualifications in Diet & Nutrition.
The co-author of an award-winning cookbook and a member of the Guild of Food Writers, Anjali is also a popular blogger and an ambassador for the British Asian Trust. She continues to go from strength to strength, regularly appearing on television and appears in leading lifestyle and food magazines around the world.
VIVEK SINGH
Vivek Singh spurned family expectations to follow his father’s footsteps and become an engineer and surprised them instead by announcing his intentions of becoming a chef.
After graduating, he joined the Oberoi Hotel Group as a specialist in Indian cuisine. He was fast-tracked to become the Indian chef of the Oberoi’s flagship Rajvilas in Jaipur – at the age of 26. Rajvilas was voted the most luxurious hotel in the world by Tatler in 2001.
Vivek was recruited by The Cinnamon Club in Westminster as executive chef for the launch in 2001. Since first opening its doors, The Cinnamon Club has been redefining expectations of Indian cooking and has crafted a brilliant marriage between Indian flavours and spicing and western culinary styles.
Vivek’s award-winning food has established The Cinnamon Club as probably the most famous Indian restaurant in the world. Vivek is widely believed to be one of the most articulate Indian chefs of his generation.
In November 2008, Vivek opened the Cinnamon Kitchen, a new concept from The Cinnamon Club team.
Vivek is also involved in The Anise Bar, which is at the same location as Cinnamon Kitchen. Cinnamon Soho, Vivek’s newest restaurant opened in March 2012.
Books include The Cinnamon Club, Cinnamon Club Seafood, CURRY! and
Curry, Classic and Contemporary and his latest Cinnamon Kitchen.

I am an absolute foodie & my hobby includes trying different types of cuisine to the delight of my family. I have been an avid supporter of the Good Food and Wine show for many years when it was held in Cape Town. Since moving back to my hometown Durban I have had a change of culinary inspiration. So yes, I want to desperately attend the Durban version of this successful and delicious show so I can see how things are done here. I would love to rub shoulders with Anjali Parthak as I adore her contemporary take on Indian cuisine. Did I also mention my budding little Masterchef daughter who at 9 can make a wicked Lindt chocolate mousse? The kids entertainment area will be most welcome as I step into culinary heaven! Delicious indeed!

I would love to attend as my 6 year old has already stated that he wants to be a Masterchef. He is an avid fan of all the food channels on Dstv and he loves to help out in the kitchen. He loves to be where he can be creative and he is even is presentation of food.
