Win a 1st Jump Skydive Course with Durban Skydive Centre

Published

on

Ever had a dream of flying? Ever wanted to experience pure freedom? Then this is for you! Durban Skydive Centre is giving one lucky Durbanite the chance to experience skydiving first hand! Enter below to stand a chance of winning a first jump course (static line). We have done it and we can say that it is life changing.

What is Static Line Training?

The Static Line training program is one of two ways to learn how to skydive. It is a safe, simple and effective, and has put thousands of adventure seekers into the skies…..

Training begins in the morning with ground school. The static line course will take approximately five to six hours to complete (Depending on course size) The course consists of lectures and practical instruction. (No written tests) Your first jump will hopefully be on the same day as the training course, weather permitting.

On your first jump, your main parachute opens automatically (via a static line, hence the name) after you exit solo from the airplane at 3,500 feet. Under a jump masters supervision, you steer your “square” parachute to a soft landing.

Key to safety, during subsequent jumps, you are introduced to true freefall and how to control your body and skydive safely with others. After a minimum of seven static line jumps, which must include four satisfactory practice “Dummy” ripcord pulls, you are cleared for your first 3 second freefall. After your first freefall you will make at least 10 additional supervised freefall from progressively higher altitudes and longer free falls and with more stringent guidelines. You will learn skills such as altitude awareness, manoeuvring in freefall and jumping safely with others.

At the end of the program you are certified as a “Novice parachutist”. Jumps after the ground school session cost R300 including, gear hire and packing. You have to jump every 28 days to stay in the programme and stay “current” (Parachute Association of SA regulations) A refresher course has to completed if you waited more than 28 days. After a 3 months the course has to be started again.

Ziggy Alberts announces his debut South African tour as he heads to Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town this October

Published

on

By

Ziggy Alberts’ first ever South African visit will anticipate the release of his forthcoming sixth studio album, DANCING IN THE DARK, out 04 November 2022.

Musically, Ziggy’s sound has raised comparisons to the likes of early Ben Howard or Jack Johnson. His sound is laid back, soulful and folk-tinged, and his songwriting is honest and personal. Whilst Ziggy Alberts is similar to his contemporaries in writing about his personal experiences, his music is layered with subtextual references to issues close to his heart, such as the natural world, the human experience and the wider planet.

DANCING IN THE DARK has been driven by real-time releases, including the singles I BELIEVE, TATTOOS, THE GREAT DIVIDE and most recently, THE SUN & THE SEA featuring Donovan Woods, which all find their home on the album. The new record sits in a genre – self-titled by Ziggy – as “Future Folk”. In his own words, “the album is a blend of the honest and raw, with the smoothness and touch of synthesised soundscapes, intentional tuning and programmed organic samples… that reflects accurately the range of experiences we are having as humans in our current world.” Matched with Ziggy’s storytelling and sincere songwriting, DANCING IN THE DARK shows yet another step in Alberts’ growth as an artist, his music and personal explorations, both introspectively and in the natural world.

Founder of his independent label, Commonfolk Records, and book publishing house, Commonfolk Publishing, Ziggy Alberts has managed to craft what many musicians and authors dream of – the ability to tell a story on their own terms. In 2022, Ziggy was awarded an APRA for his track letting go. He has also earned ARIA Platinum certifications for Laps Around The Sun (Double Platinum), Gone, Runaway, Heaven, Love Me Now, Stronger and Four Feet in the Forest (EP), plus Gold certifications for his Laps Around The Sun album and six tracks in his catalogue.
