STER-KINEKOR ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF SPECTACULAR SPACE ADVENTURE, GRAVITY: An IMAX 3D Experience®
Out-of-this-world 3D experience on massive screen transports you into outer space…
IMAX® fans are in for a treat this month. They are about to get the opportunity to watch the movie that is out of this world, that features two of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and that topped the US box office in its first week of release… and, all of this, in the most immersive cinematic experience.
If you haven’t yet seen the multi-nominated and award-winning space spectacular, Gravity, Ster-Kinekor is giving you the chance to see it the best way possible – in IMAX® 3D. Director Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravitywill be releasing at the IMAX® theatre at Gateway in Durban, to coincide with its global IMAX® re-release on Friday, 31 January. If you have seen Gravity, you haven’t yet seen it in the most immersive cinematic experience that is IMAX® 3D… but, now you can, at Ster-Kinekor’s state-of-the-art IMAX®theatre at Gateway.
This acclaimed visual spectacle, which has already garnered a Golden Globe Award (Best Director – Alfonso Cuarón), eleven BAFTA nominations (including Best Film and Best Director), and an incredible ten Academy Award® nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress, comes to life in IMAX® 3D as it has never been seen – or experienced – before.
Gravity: An IMAX 3D Experience® has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of an IMAX 3D Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX®’s customised theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are floating in space with the characters of the movie.
Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone – tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness of outer space.
The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth… and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

If you would like to watch Gravity: An IMAX 3D Experience® at Ster-Kinekor Gateway, bookings will open on Friday 24 January (film releases on Friday, 31 January). The running time of the film is 1hr 31min and it carries a PG7-9 L classification.
