Published

on

Internationally acclaimed and multiplatinum selling rock band The Parlotones, are set to perform at the Old Mutual Music at the Lake concert, Durban Botanic Gardens on Sunday, 8 June. Accompanying The Parlotones is Durban-born singer, Michael Lowman and we have 5 x double tickets to giveaway to 5 x lucky readers. Simply comment below telling us why you should win. *T & C’s apply.

The Parlotones, whose experimental style incorporates traditional folk structures with modern rock sounds, are known to regularly champion the cause for sensitivity and care for the environment.

Over the years, The Parlotones have lent their celebrity status to initiatives such as Earth Hour and Live Earth. They have also opened for bands such as LIVE, Maroon 5 and Coldplay.

Back from Los Angeles, their return to the Durban Botanic Gardens ensures that funds are raised to assist the garden to carry out its mandate: to maintain and improve biodiversity, to educate the public and to look after an important space for community use.

ā€œMusic is a powerful force that highlights important issues and The Parlotonesā€™ role in the environmentalism space is welcome,ā€ commented Bandile Mngoma, Old Mutual sponsorship manager.

ā€œThrough this series at the gardens we raise awareness of the part each person plays in waste management, our impact on the environment as city dwellers and the role of plants in our environment,ā€ said Mngoma.

Supporting act, Michael Lowman, will bring his Eric Clapton and Beatles inspired music to the Durban Botanic Gardens. With his gift for storytelling and an underlying rhythmic and melodic sense on the guitar, this young singer/songwriter will bring heat to the gardens.

The German Duo are excited to confirm that both Neon Dreams and Sean Koch will join them as support acts on the line-up for their shows in Cape Town (15 February) and Johannesburg (17 February), and Neon Dreams will also join Milky Chance in Durban (18 February) as support act.

Canadian duo Neon Dreams are no strangers to the South African music scene. Their 2019 single ā€œLife Without Fantasiesā€ reached the top of the South African viral charts amassing millions of streams in 2021 during the lockdown. The band connected with tens of thousands of fans online which led to their first sold out headline tour. They have continued to cement themselves in the industry here, having toured the country a number of times over the past few years and return in February 2024 to share the stage with Milky Chance in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.

Sean Koch is one of SAā€™s most-loved indie-folk artists who brings a mixed bag of African and western, influence alongside messages of home, a connection to nature, the ocean and the people around him; to his storytelling, feel-good music. While rooted in his flowing-folk style, his music is diverse. From dance infused songs like ā€˜Lift You Upā€™ the standout single from his collection (including the Double MZK & G DOM remix) to the dreamier songs like ā€˜Feel the Energyā€™ that carry deeper messages of connection to the natural world and the people that surround us.
