BNI (Business Network International) is the largest word of mouth referral organization in the world. It offers members the opportunity to share ideas, contacts and most importantly, business referrals.
The mission of BNI is to help members increase their business through a structured, positive, and professional word-of-mouth program that enables them to develop long-term, meaningful relations with quality business professionals.
Belonging to BNI is like having dozens of sales people working for you because all of them carry several copies of your business cards around with them. When they meet someone who could use your products or services, they take out your card and recommend you. It’s as simple as that. It’s simple because it’s based on a proven concept of BNI Founder, Dr. Ivan Misner, called “Givers Gain®.” If I give you business, you’ll give me business and we’ll both benefit as a result. The Sunflower Fund has been a member of BNI Gateway Chapter for over 5 years and recently became a member of the Pietermaritzburg Chapter.
The BNI Africa Middle East Continent Conference 2014 will be held in Durban from 11 to 16 August at the Durban Country Club, with a gala dinner on 15 August at the Hellenic Hall in Durban North.
The conference will feature world-class speakers; Norm Dominguez (CEO of BNI), Susan Goodsell, Muraguri Elizaphan, Shelli Howlett, Kevin Barber, Peter Sylvester, Bijay Shah and David Bullock.
All proceeds from the conference and the gala dinner will go to The Sunflower Fund. The Sunflower Fund’s main function is to grow the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) so that patients in need a bone marrow stem cell transplant can search successfully for a suitable donor. To be able to help all patients the Registry needs to grow! To achieve this The Sunflower Fund creates awareness and educates donors and also pay for the costly blood test. To raise money for these tests they hold numerous fund-raising events throughout the year.
It is very unlikely that this life saving donor match will be found outside a patient’s ethnic group which means in South Africa 100 000 donors of each of the four prominent ethnic groups (black, coloured, Indian and white) need to be educated and recruited.
