Durban High School wins “My Durban” School Mural Competition!

Published

on

Five local schools were recently chosen to compete in the “My Durban” School Mural Competition at the 12th edition of the Durban Homemakers Expo, which saw Durban High School up against Kloof, Northlands Girls, Westville Boys’ and Kingsway High Schools.

Seven DHS boys’ – David Christopher, Kaylan Nathulal, Zia Cassim, Advik Beni, Nadiem Barnwell, Junaid Ally and Cameron Murugan – were hard at work in the weeks leading up to the event, creating a masterpiece of fun, colourful, bold, bright and individual interpretations of what Durban is all about on a large canvas, sponsored by Shave Paint and Décor.

The Durban Homemakers Expo ran from October 3rd to October 5th at the Durban Exhibition Centre and overall, Durban High School took the win of R5000 worth of paint from Shaves Paint. Out of all the schools, DHS turned out the most creative mural that applied the brief well, thus securing their win!

“I was really excited when we were announced as the winners. These past three weeks have been difficult for our group as we had to work out of school hours to prevent any mishaps with the beautiful canvas. This resulted in many after hour sessions and the group giving up their weekends to complete the mural. I am very proud of our boys as they really put their heart and soul into the mural,” said Nirvana Kusial (DHS Head of Creative Arts).

Congratulations to all the boys who were involved in creating the mural, as well as to Ms Kusial for overseeing and taking the time out to assist the learners.
