“A new year offers a chance to build on the successes from the previous year, implement new policies and ultimately improve the hotel for the better. This year I hope to use my years of experience and expertise in hospitality to take the popular Umhlanga-based Urban Park Hotel to new heights.
I have been in the hospitality industry for over 10 years and in that time I have worked all over Africa and in the United Kingdom. I started out in hospitality in South Africa and after 6 years I decided to further my career in London. I worked in a number of hotels in London and study towards hospitality qualifications at Thames Valley University and Cornell University. Now, after working in some of the most prestigious hotels the hospitality industry has to offer and even doing a stint on the Rovos Rail, the most luxurious train in the world, I’m back to do what I love most on home soil.
Our mission for this year will be to ensure that every single guest that visits Urban Park receives the kind of treatment befitting of a hotel of this caliber. I intend to nurture a culture of listening and to efficiently action problems so that this hotel may be run in accordance with its already brilliant reputation.
It is important to see opportunities for growth in a company, that’s what prompted me to join the Misty Blue team in the first place. That and the fact that they have a reputation for hiring amazing staff who are always willing to help the guests, as a GM you can’t ask for much more.
Urban Park is situated in Umhlanga, but it is slightly removed from the developing areas which means it is not as busy and there is much more space. The hotel also offers self-catering apartments which are bigger than the hotel rooms and give guests more space to move around. I think these unique selling points will stand us in good stead for the year ahead”.
