Michael Bublé popped into Durban this past Tuesday evening for a casual “Hello”, a little chit-chat and to WOW the crowd as part of his world tour (#MBWorldTour).
Cover photo was taken by the very talented Kierran Allen. Visit www.kierranallen.com to view some more amazing photos from this Durbanite. The photos to follow in this post have been shared by super-fan, Terri Kilian who was directly in front of the second stage (thank you for sharing with us!)
I would like to thank you Mr Michael Bublé for coming to Durban! A lot of international acts skip our beautiful city to hit the bigger crowds in our sister cities and today, I feel quite patriotic and want to tell anyone who has ever opted to not come to Durban that, “we showed you!”
The concert was sold out and the crowd stood at the Moses Mabhida Stadium as the rain came pouring down, men and women alike were jiggling their bums to the music, some were up on chairs, some were hiding under shelter… yet no one left! You captivated us from the moment you stepped out singing, “Fever” and I thank you for visiting our beautiful city, for entertaining us, I thank you on behalf of every Durbanite in attendance!
The opening act, Naturally 7 were incredible! Using their voices to make the sounds of the instruments accompanied by some amazingly talented singers, who could give our Idols contestants a run for their money. Powerful, soulful voices. My explanation has not done these guys any justice, so please take a moment to watch the YouTube video below.
6 things I loved about the Michael Bublé concert:
1) I loved the way Michael was so real with the crowd. He surprised me with his candidness, it didn’t seem false or put on and I really enjoyed that. I recall as the heavens were coming down on us he said something along the lines of: “I am from Vancouver, Canada… we tan in this sh!t!” LOL
2) I loved the way he walked through the crowd while he was singing, fantastic interaction! It was refreshing. Fans were recording him with their cell phones as he walked by – if anyone reading this has a video PLEASE get in touch, I would love to include this with my post at some stage. Of course he had his body guard with him and I did see a few ladies getting out of hand, but nothing that wasn’t contained very quickly. HE IS MARRIED GIRLS 😉
3) I loved his South African impersonation, it wasn’t spot-on but it was flipping funny.
4) I loved that he sang what seemed an impromptu Toto’s “Africa” (I bless the rains down in Africa), fitting under the circumstances.
5) I loved that he said he would be getting wet with us and he did!
6) I loved that when he sang about love, millions of red and white confetti hearts burst out of these machine-things into the sky and through the crowd! It was spectacular, I really felt the love!
All in all a fantastic performance in the rain! I am already following him on Instagram and will be purchasing my FIRST Michael Bublé CD soon!
To any and all performers thinking of coming to SA and even local acts, don’t forget about Durbs guys… we really do know how to party on a week night and in the rain!
