Legacy of LEGiT continues with Punk & Ivy for Winter 2015!

Published

on

LEGiT’s proud and defiant statement, “Don’t Tell Me What To Wear”, has become the mantra for Mzansi’s savvy young women who definitely know what they want. They know that with every new season the iconic brand gives them another reason to stake their individuality with a fresh range of fashion-forward items. And with a series of unique and inspiring collaborations already under its (very stylish) belt, LEGiT is once more teaming up with more unconventional designers, and is proud to announce that the Winter capsule campaign is going to be exciting and special.

First off, the ambassador in question is none other than genre-defying innovators Punk & Ivy. Then there’s the news that the collaboration is being taken further by introducing an incredible illustrator and sought-after typographer into the mix. And these all come together in a red-hot campaign that will turn Winter way up and take the whole “Don’t Tell Me…” narrative into a new and challenging space.

Punk & Ivy is the love child of Jozi couple Bianca and Khaya Sibiya, a meeting point for each of their individual fashion and design experiences. They’ve made a massive mark on the local scene, with Bianca’s background as a Digital Marketing specialist and Khaya’s creative and styling services for various high-profile brands making them a fashion-power-couple. Since Punk & Ivy was formed in 2012, they’ve been producing uniquely African-inspired sports luxe and street-wear, with an androgynous twist.

LEGiT buyers are forever travelling the world, hunting down trends and ensuring that South African women have the best in global fashion. As such, the Punk & Ivy 4 LEGiT range takes its inspiration from the streets. The daytime feel is casual and informed by global travels and raw tribal prints in black, white, burgundy and mustard, with denim completing. Night is all monochromes with gold and fiery red highlights. But it’s not that cut and dry, with an emphasis on giving wearers the option to transform items from day to night. The key garments to look out for are the tux jumpsuit, embellished bodycon dress, boiler suit, white shirtdress and gold maxi skirt.

And supporting this range is a whole new campaign that will lead with the very simple statement: “Don’t Conform”. It’s the natural progression for a brand that wants to encourage its fans to be themselves, and its been brought to life in a visually arresting way. On board for the project are typographer extraordinaire Dani Loureiro and award-winning illustrator Jade Klara. The two have countless ground-breaking, innovative projects between them, and now come together for a series of incredible posters that truly capture the range, the message and the undeniably progressive spirit that LEGiT has come to epitomise.

Ocean Ngobeni, LEGiT’s Marketing Manager, is incredibly excited by this new range: “LEGiT is always motivated by a need to provide fashion solutions for our customers,” she enthuses. “We use multiple touch points like digital interaction, instore displays and activations to give a complete, cutting-edge fashion experience. We are all about executing true fast fashion. We do this throughout our 202 stores in all nine South African provinces, across the South African Development Community and with an eye on expanding even further into Africa. The Punk & Ivy range is exactly in line with our objectives, and with Dani and Jade on board to bring our positioning to life, we’re going to continue to be part of, and lead the way in, local popular culture”.

Published

By

Breakout Events is counting down the days as Let’s Rock, the UK’s most iconic 80s music festival, is making its highly anticipated debut in South Africa in just a few days! Known for its stellar lineups and incredible 80s nostalgia, Let’s Rock is bringing two unforgettable events to Johannesburg and Durban, featuring a mix of international legends and local icons from Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey, Midge Ure (Ultravox/Visage), PJ Powers, Just Jinjer and many more.

Event Dates:
● Let’s Rock Johannesburg – Saturday, 15 February 2025 at Marks Park, Emmarentia
● Let’s Rock Durban – Sunday, 16 February 2025 at Durban Botanic Gardens

Tickets are on sale here.
Get ready to experience a full day of music that will take you back to the best of the 80s and beyond!

Known for leading the charge since 2009 in 80’s music festivals, Let’s Rock is renowned for its fun, family- friendly atmosphere, offering something for every generation to enjoy.
Headlining both shows are 80s music icons, Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey and Midge Ure (Ultravox/Visage), who will perform their timeless hits that shaped a generation. These legendary
performers are set to bring the true essence of the 80s experience straight from the UK to South Africa’s
stages!

Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey

For nearly three decades fans of the Thompson Twins have waited for more live performances from one of the most iconic bands of the eighties. Now The Thompson Twins’ vocalist Tom Bailey, with a new band, is touring and performing the big Thompson Twins hits and more. The Thompson Twins had huge hits on both sides of the Atlantic. Songs such as ‘Hold Me Now’, ‘Doctor Doctor’, ‘You Take Me Up’ and ‘Love On Your Side’ provided the soundtrack for so many people’s lives worldwide in the mid-eighties. In 1985 The Thompson Twins played ‘Hold Me Now’ at Live Aid in Philadelphia and also performed the Beatles‘Revolution’ with Madonna and Nile Rogers. The Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey features Tom Bailey on vocals, keyboards, guitar, harmonica, and percussion. His all-female band features Charlotte Raven on vocals and keyboards, Vicky Warwick on bass, vocals and keyboards, and Paulina Szczepaniak on electronic drums.

Midge Ure

Multiple award-winning, platinum-selling Midge Ure is an artist who needs very little introduction. Musical success is seldom measured in periods of more than a few years, if not Andy Warhol’s often quoted “fifteen minutes”, so the fact that by the time Midge’s single “If I Was” went to the No 1 spot in 1985 he had already crammed several musical lifetimes into a 10-year professional career with bands like Thin Lizzy, Visage, the legendary Ultravox and of course the most famous one-off group in musical history Band Aid, writing and producing one of the world’s most recognised songs ever with “Do they know it’s Christmas.”

Local Legends:
South Africa’s own music heroes will also be lighting up the Let’s Rock stages, including:

● Steve Louw’s Big Sky (Joburg show only)
● Just Jinjer
● PJ Powers
● Cindy Alter (from Clout)
● John Ellis (from Tree63)
● James Stewart (from The Usual)
● Brent Harris and Thee Jam

This epic lineup ensures an electric celebration of music from the past and present, making Let’s Rock the ultimate party you won’t want to miss.
