MEET THE MINIONS FROM THE NEW MINIONS FILM AT A STER-KINEKOR CINEMA NEAR YOU

Published

Go back to where it all began…

If you loved the millions of Minions who starred in the Despicable Me movies – and, let’s be honest… who didn’t? – you will be excited to know that these delightful little creatures are back! But, this time, they get to star in their very own movie! Minions is a prequel to the Despicable Me films, in which we find the loveable yellow fellas setting out from the dawn of time to look for a ‘despicable’ master to serve.

In the build-up to the film’s national release at Ster-Kinekor cinemas countrywide on Friday, 10 July, the Minions are embarking on a road trip over the next few weeks, to make the acquaintance of their faithful fans around South Africa! Ster-Kinekor is giving you the opportunity to meet three special Minions, Kevin, Stuart and Bob, and catch a special pre-screening of the Minions film at select cinemas following their appearance.

The Minions costume tour arrives in Durban on Saturday, 27 June. For your chance to meet them face to face, and pose for photographs, make your way to the cinema foyer at Ster-Kinekor Gateway between 14:00 – 15:30 in the cinema foyer. After meeting with the Minions you will also be able to enjoy the pre-release screening of Minions at 17:00!

On Saturday, 28 June the Minions will head to Shelley Centre to spend a fun-filled day with families, friends and fans. Kevin, Stuart and Bob will be at the Ster-Kinekor cinema between 09:30 -11:00, giving you plenty of time to interact with the delightful characters. After meeting with the Minions you will also be able to enjoy the pre-release screening of Minions at 12:30!

About Minions:

Minions is a 3D, computer-animated comedy film and the prequel to the highly successful Despicable Me (2010) and Despicable Me 2 (2013).

Minions begins at the dawn of time. Starting out as single-celled yellow organisms, the Minions have evolved through the ages, perpetually serving the most detestable of masters. However, continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters – from T. Rex to Napoleon – the Minions find themselves without someone to serve… and fall into a deep depression.

However, one Minion named Kevin has a plan. Alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob (all voiced by Pierre Coffin), he ventures out into the world to find a new big, bad boss for his tribe to follow and serve. The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill (voiced by Academy Award® winner Sandra Bullock), the world’s first-ever female super-villain.  They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City – in fact, it is 1968 B.G. (Before Gru) – and end up in modern-day London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: to save all of ‘Minionkind’… from annihilation.

Actors Jon Hamm (Herb Overkill), Michael Keaton, Allison Jammy and Steve Coogan lend their voices to the film, as does Jennifer Saunders as Queen Elizabeth II.

Featuring a soundtrack of hit music from the ’60s that still permeates our culture today, Minions is produced by Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy, and is directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda.  Brian Lynch has written the screenplay and Chris Renaud serves as executive producer of the film.
