on

After phenomenal tickets sales in 2014/2015 with the likes of John Legend, Nitro Circus Live, The Script, Phillip Phillips and Michael Buble selling out Durban venues. Big Concerts has lots more in store for Durban in 2016 with 6 international tours already headed to the city including Rodriguez, Roxette, Lionel Richie, Josh Groban, Chris De Burgh and George Benson. Managing Director for Big Concerts Justin Van Wyk commented: We are exceptionally pleased with the stellar performance of our shows in the Durban market over the past 18 months, and truly appreciate the unwavering support from fans, the media and the City of Durban”

More information about these tours as well as links to buy tickets can be found by visitingwww.bigconcerts.co.za

The first artist to head to Durban is the legendary Rodriguez. He has perhaps one of the most unique true stories of fleeting fame finally realized and is now enjoying the collective heartfelt dream of a musician, beating the odds and finding a place in music history. His first Durban date on 31st January 2016 is sold out but an extra date has been added on 1st February 2016. Rodriguez is shortly followed by Roxette whose on-going world tour will lead up to the celebration of the band’s 30th anniversary in 2016 with opening dates in South Africa. Don’t miss the Durban date on 2nd February at the Durban ICC Arena.

Next up is Lionel Richie who will be performing ‘All The Hits, All Night Long’ at Moses Mabhida Stadium on 13thMarch 2016. Fresh from a sold out European tour and a recent headline slot at Glastonbury the rave reviews include:‘A show that swings between raucous R&B and chocolate-box ballads, all of it fantastic’ – The Guardian. Performing all his hits including “Penny Lover,” “Stuck On You,” and “Hello” this is one concert not to miss.

With over 25 million albums sold worldwide, Josh Groban first broke out in 2001 with his self titled debut album and has gone on to release 5 multi-platinum albums. In South Africa, he is one of the most successful international artists of the past 10 years, having sold over 750 000 albums. His latest album release ‘Stages’ peaked at number 1 for 3 weeks, on the South African music charts. A collection of some of the greatest musical theatre songs of all time, which Groban describes as “gorgeously arranged songs that have stood the test of time”. Recorded with producers Humberto Gatica and Bernie Herms in both Los Angeles and London’s Abbey Road (with a 75-piece orchestra),Stages features songs from Les Misérables, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel; Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George, Sweeney Todd and Into the Woods; The Fantasticks, A Chorus Line; Andrew Lloyd Weber’sPhantom of the Opera The Wizard of Oz and others.  He will be performing for one night only in Durban on 10th April at the ICC Durban Arena as part of his ‘Stages’ world tour.

Few artists can lay claim to international success spanning three decades, but Chris De Burgh has achieved precisely that. ‘Spanish Train and Other Stories’ was Chris’ first major hit in SA and the first single ‘Just Another Poor Boy’ from this album was No.1 for many weeks.  By the time he released ‘Man On The Line’ in 1981, Chris was a well-established global star and the single from this album ‘High On Emotion’ became a No.1 record right across the globe. 1986 saw the release of  ‘Into The Light,’ Chris’ most successful record up to that point, which sold in excess of 10million copies worldwide. It also featured the single ‘Lady In Red’, which was no.1 in 50 countries and is still one of the most played songs on the planet.  Chris De Burgh and Band Live will be performing on 12th April at the Durban ICC Arena.

George Benson has achieved tremendous international crossover success from the 1970s to present day – from jazz to pop and from instrument innovator to vocal sensation. Don’t miss him live in Durban in an up close and personal arena set up ‘An Evening with George Benson’ on 10th June at the Durban ICC Arena featuring all the hits including ‘Give Me The Night’, ‘Turn Your Love Around’, ‘The Greatest Love Of All’, ‘ Nothing’s Going to Change My Love’, ‘Breezin, ‘This Masquarade’ and many more.

Tickets for all the concerts are on sale now from Computicket and www.bigconcerts.co.za

BUMP & GRIND at Talloula

Published

on

Durban comedy favourites Aaron McIlroy and Lisa Bobbert-McIlroy return to Talloula with their new musical comedy –  BUMP & GRIND, a high-energy musical sketch comedy that delivers a riotous mix of song, dance, quick-fire character comedy and heart. Created under the direction and choreography of Daisy Spencer, the show has already delighted audiences this festive season with its trademark MacBob mayhem and polish.

Described by Billy Suter as “a sparkly cracker of song, dance and off-the-wall humour,” BUMP & GRIND is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud theatrical experience. The show tumbles through a helter-skelter parade of characters — from fan favourites Bruce and Charmaine, as Elvis impersonators, pensioners Beatrice and Max, and super-sage Dr Veejay, to bold new creations including AI androids, Latin dance sensations and an Irish preacher with stand-up ambitions.

The music includes numbers from Talking Heads, Lady Gaga, Elvis, The Beatles, Whitney Houston and a climactic medley of ’80s chart hits.

“It’s a vibe… Aaron and Lisa’s talent and skill lie in their seemingly effortless transformations from one character to another — and making every dance hit and ballad that character’s own!” Shannon Kenny (ArtSmart)

With broad family appeal, high energy and a proven track record of sold-out runs, don’t miss BUMP & GRIND at Talloula at the end of January!

Review: Bouquet Building at See Café

Published

on

A Floral Treat in the Upper Highway

If you’re in the Upper Highway area and looking for something fresh, creative, and soul-nourishing to do, don’t miss the Bouquet Building events at See Café in Hillcrest. We recently attended one and it was absolutely delightful — the kind of morning that leaves you smiling long after the last stem is snipped.

Held twice a month, this beautifully curated experience is a must for flower lovers — or anyone in need of a little peace, beauty and joy.

For under R300 per person, all the beautiful, fresh high-quality blooms are provided (seriously, the kind you’d never find at this price in a ready-made bouquet elsewhere). You just bring yourself and your creativity! It’s a hands-on, joy-filled session where you get to design and build your own bouquet from scratch, with guidance if you need it. It’s real value for money, with a big dose of creativity and fun!

Whether you choose to gift your masterpiece to someone special or keep it as a cheerful centrepiece at home (that lasts for weeks), it’s a heartwarming and fulfilling way to spend a morning.

Even better? For a (ridiculously reasonable) extra cost, you can enjoy a delicious coffee and breakfast from See Café while you create — and trust me, the vibe is just as wonderful as the food. (Click here to see their menu) The setting is intimate and cozy, the energy is uplifting, and there’s a lovely sense of community as you chat with fellow flower lovers. Plus, they’re dog-friendly for outside seating, so your furry friend can tag along and enjoy the fresh air while you build your bouquet!

This event is definitely a must-do in Durban. It’s ideal for a solo treat, a girls’ morning out, or even a unique gift experience. Whether you’re a seasoned flower arranger or just in it for the fun, it’s well worth it!

Follow See Café on social media here to keep an eye out for the next event – you won’t want to miss it. Your bouquet (and your soul) will thank you.

Click here to watch our reel of the event and see what you can look forward to when you attend!
