The final day of the 2016 Splashy Fen Revival was a great success as it saw the launch of the new Rainbow Rhythm Sunday Sessions at Splashy Fen Main Stage, situated on the beautiful Splashy Fen Farm just outside of Underberg.
Underberg – Easter Sunday saw the final day of the 2016 Splashy Fen Music Festival take place on yet another gloriously sunny day. As promised, 5 680 people over the four-day long weekend got to enjoy a bigger, better, more Splashy-esque festival experience than ever before.
With the crisp mountain air and clear blue skies, festival goers were treated to four days of river frolicking, festival attractions for the whole family, a broad selection of craft and food stalls, and a seriously great line-up of music across all genres, carefully developed and chosen to suit all tastes and styles.
The Splashy Fen Main Stage came alive on Easter Sunday afternoon as the crowds gathered for the magical musical sounds of Shabalala Rhythm, Louis Mhlanga, The Meditators, Ildo Nandja and the Unity Band, Oliver Mtukudzi and maskanda act Umfulongashi.
Festival Director Stu Berry is thrilled with the outcome. “We’ve put a lot of time and effort into ensuring festival goers feel safe, have a blast and get great value for money,” said Berry.
“With a 34% increase in sales from last year, just over 4 495 tickets sold, a greatly reduced number of medical incidents and a 85% decrease in crime, we really feel like we have achieved this. I am very proud of our outstanding team who worked together before and during the festival to deliver on our promise.”
If Splashy Fen 2016 is anything to go by, festival goers are in for a treat next year, as event management team Impi Concept Events took vital lessons from year one to ensure a festival experience of the highest standard in the future.
“Now that the Revival is done, we’re quite excited to get started on preparations for next year already,” says Festival Operations Head, Andrew van Rensburg.
“Our fencing and structured venue layout has provided us with a great framework to ensure easy flow and management for years to come.”
Don Clarke, local resident and avid Splashy Fen supporter commented that: “There was a freshness and revitalisation evident everywhere. From the cleaning staff, to wonderful new sign posts and banners.
“The whole place just smelled wholesome again. Everything, including the campsites, looked so neat and clean. There cannot possibly be a more beautiful festival site anywhere in this country. Possibly even the world.”
