Decorex 2016 in Durban ran from 18-21 March. I attended the show on Saturday the 19th, and was thrilled to see that Decorex had collaborated with the I Heart Market, so that not only could I browse home decor, fittings and accessories, but I could browse the gorgeous stalls of the market, and munch on all things delicious that both the market and the Decorex show had to offer.
It was truly a show with something for everybody – Camp I Heart Market had an eating area set up, with little teepees for kids to play in, and food trucks galore! I saw the Scoop Me S’More truck and headed straight there, as I’ve heard so much about it, and yet never tasted any of their delicious ice cream sandwiches. I chose a Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip cookie, and a Double Chocolate cookie, with a scoop of Birthday Cake ice cream in between, and it was just like a funfair-ride for my taste buds!
After getting my blood sugar levels up, I had a really good look at the different decor displays and home products that Decorex had on offer, and was fascinated by the driftwood sculptures by Bryan Cusack, which included a life-size horse, and a man with the world on his shoulders. So beautifully made and presented. There were gorgeous kitchen displays, fabulous bedroom and bathroom fittings, beautiful dining room and lounge set-ups, and more food on offer than humanly possible to taste.
We ate a spot of lunch at the Bubbly Bar, where you could order fancy canapes and glasses of sparkling wine, and the food was incredible – Seared Rump Bruscetta, Melon and Parma ham squares and mini Italian meatballs, all washed down with a glass of L’Ormarins Vintage Brut Rose sparkling wine.
All in all, I got some fantastic ideas for decor in my bedroom, took business cards for the granite stand, as my folks have long wanted to have their kitchen done with granite counters, and I bought some amazing tupperwares – they’re silicon and fold up flat, so they take up very little space in your kitchen cupboards. I also took home some gorgeous garlicky olives, tasty biltong and some gourmet cheeses.
Congratulations Decorex on what was possibly your best event yet!
