Movies will be showcased in spectacular fashion and superior luxury through five world-class experiences with Nu Metro Cinemas’ brand new 8-screen cinema complex at Cornubia Mall in Umhlanga Rocks, on the scenic North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

This ground-breaking new multi-format cineplex opens to public on Thursday, 28 September 2017 – featuring multi-sensory 4DX, fully-immersive Xtreme and ultra-luxurious VIP theatre formats, regular 2D and 3D cinemas, as well as a VIP lounge and in-cinema dining menu.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, Nu Metro Cornubia Mall will be hosting a Free Movie Day on Friday, 29 September 2017 from 12:00 until 20:00. Movie fans will get an opportunity to see their favourite movies in Xtreme, VIP or 2D/3D for free. More details and specific movie titles will be announced closer to the time.

“Nu Metro’s world-class cinema formats serve to re-ignite the “magic of the movies” – to give customers an experience that can’t be duplicated anywhere else; featuring the latest, cutting-edge quality and comfort. It is not only about showcasing films with the latest technology, but to also give moviegoers a fully inclusive experience of superb quality, to see movies as the filmmakers intended – all delivered in an environment which can’t be duplicated via any form of home entertainment-system. We are very excited about the opening of Nu Metro Cornubia Mall, as it incorporates all our key brand experiences under one roof for the first time ever – the new entertainment destination of choice for Umhlanga,” says Nitesh Matai, Nu Metro’s Managing Executive.

It is the first ever cinema complex for Nu Metro to feature all five experiences (exclusive to Nu Metro) under one roof, in a cutting-edge new movie theatre space – on par with the best in international standards. Nu Metro Cornubia will be Umhlanga’s premier entertainment destination.

Nu Metro Cornubia Mall in KZN will house the 6th 4DX cinema in Africa – following Nu Metro’s rapid expansion of this revolutionary cinema format in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria over the past two years. KZN will now have two 4DX cinemas – with Nu Metro The Pavilion having joined the 4DX family last year with resounding success.

4DX features full-length movies in live action. This is multi-sensory cinema in its truest form: environmental effects (including moving seats, wind, water, scents, lightning and fog) synchronised with the action on-screen, showcasing the world’s top blockbusters in a format which makes viewers literally a part of the movie – only at Nu Metro.

The Xtreme cinema at Nu Metro Cornubia Mall will also be the 6th of these fully immersive cinema formats in South Africa – simply summed up as “Big Screens, Big Sound, Best Digital Quality”.

Xtreme features Premium Large Format-screens with the latest cinema audio systems at the upper end of quality, moving beyond the confines of “stereo” or “surround” sound. Dolby Atmos delivers full all-around sound, including overhead speakers; sound objects can literally be moved around in 3D space. The best in sound is combined with the crispest, clearest RealD projection systems along with 4K Ultra High Definition visual quality for Xtreme cinemas.

Nu Metro Cornubia Mall will have two VIP cinemas. VIP upgrades the Nu Metro movie experience to first-class, with luxurious leather – recliner seating, a VIP lounge and an à la carte menu prepared in Nu Metro’s own kitchen by its VIP chef. VIP is the cinema experience of choice for discerning moviegoers who enjoy a cut above the regular cinema fare, with intimate in-cinema dining and a range of freshly prepared meals, hot and cold drinks. The VIP lounge also doubles up as an event venue, and will be available for hire for corporate and private functions.

Cornubia Mall’s location is what sets it apart from other malls in the region, as it is easily accessible from the from N2 highway, the M41 and Cornubia Boulevard. Shoppers will use on grade parking, normally associated with value centres, not malls. These two factors, combined with the shopping experience that combines convenience and variety is what makes Cornubia Mall a distinctively designed retail and entertainment space.

This 65,000-square metre mall offers a good selection of food, fashion, lifestyle and sports attractions integrated into an outdoor, family-oriented shopping experience. The mall is connected by bridges, landscaped walkways and sidewalks that give shoppers a sense of being indoors and outdoors at the same time, perfect for beautiful KZN weather conditions. This is the essence of what makes Cornubia an active experience.

Splashy Fen 2025: An Inspiring Long Weekend of Music, Magic, and Memories in the Drakensberg

Published

on

By

Splashy Fen Music Festival has officially wrapped, and by all accounts, the 2025 edition was the most magical one yet. From the moment the gates opened on Thursday, 17 April to the last note played on Sunday night, 8,000 festival-goers soaked up four glorious days of sunshine, music, and connection in the heart of the Southern Drakensberg.

After a few days of pre-festival rain, the weather turned just in time to welcome fans to South Africa’s friendliest music festival. The sunshine held strong throughout the weekend, setting the tone for what would become an unforgettable Easter celebration filled with laughter, dancing, and community.

A SOLD-OUT FESTIVAL FROM DAY ONE

By Thursday evening, over 5,500 happy campers had already made their way into the scenic Splashy Fen farm, with the festival officially reaching full capacity the day before the gates even opened. The 2025 edition was officially opened by Cllr. T.N. Jojozi, Deputy Mayor of the Harry Gwala District Municipality, who welcomed guests on behalf of the Harry Gwala Development Agency.

Thursday night kicked off with the first wave of live performances and set the tone for the weekend.

From there, the lineup only got hotter.

DAYS OF MUSIC AND MAGIC

Friday and Saturday were packed with showstopping performances across the multiple stages. Local heroes like Ard Matthews, Hot Water, Veranda Panda, and Prime Circle brought the heat, while the Main Stage turned electric with international artists including the UK’s Youngr, a surprise performance from Casey Lowery, Ireland’s Darren Kiely, and Canada’s Neon Dreams.

Mafikizolo delivered a legendary Saturday night set that brought thousands to their feet, and GoodLuck closed out the evening with a high-energy performance that had the whole crowd bouncing.

Away from the stages, festival-goers enjoyed the full Splashy experience: sunrise yoga, trail runs, live art, craft workshops, and plenty of family-friendly fun. The popular Kids Zone was buzzing with activity, and the Saturday afternoon Splashy Parade was a visual feast of stilt-walkers, dragons, fire breathers, and whimsical characters.

At the Corona River Stage, guests kicked back in the sun to chilled tunes by the water, while a bustling craft market and food court offered up everything from gourmet bites to handmade treasures.

A SUNDAY TO REMEMBER

Easter Sunday was pure joy. The day began with a peaceful morning service hosted by Red Frogs SA at the tranquil Treehouse Stage, followed by a fun-filled Easter egg hunt for the little ones—complete with games, giggles, and surprise eggs from the Easter Bunny herself.

Music lovers made their way to the Acoustic Stage for the much-loved Legends of the Fen showcase. Featuring iconic acts like Cinema, Perez, and more, the session reminded everyone why Splashy Fen holds such a special place in South Africa’s music history.

As the sun dipped behind the Drakensberg mountains, the Main Stage roared to life for one final night of performances, closing out the weekend with soaring vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and thunderous applause.

“Our legs are sore, our voices are gone, but our hearts? FULL,” read a Monday morning post from Splashy Fen’s official social media page. “Shoutout to every artist who brought the fire at Main Stage last night, and every fan who screamed every word. What a way to end #Splashy2025!”

THE BEST ONE YET

With four full days of world-class music, family-friendly fun, and community connection in one of the most beautiful festival locations in the world, Splashy Fen 2025 has earned its title as the best one yet.
