Micasa at Durban Botanic Gardens

Published

The Durban Botanic Gardens will come alive once more with the sounds of top South African musical talent; and families and friends will come from far and wide to enjoy the very first show in the Old Mutual Music at the Lake series for 2019.

DURBAN – Fans can expect a number of lively performances on Sunday the 30th of June, as the Old Mutual Music at the Lake series, together with East Coast Radio, have paired up 4 great acts for the first show in the 2019 music series.

Set in the lush Durban Botanic Gardens, surrounded by a canopy of trees and wild
life, soulful dance trio Mi Casa will bring their energetic spirit to 4 000 excited Durbanites.

They will be supported by the equally vibrant and infectiously fun Hot Water, from
Cape Town, as well as local Durban singing sensation Nipho Hurd, and the uber-talented Menzi Mngoma – the Uber driver who recently shot to fame when he sang Opera for one
of his passengers and the video they recorded went viral.

From complete strangers just 6 years ago, to a tight-knit, musically-gifted family-like trio, Mi
Casa never fail to delight the crowds. Their soulful house vibes spread good energy, their
dance moves pull fans to their feet and their music reaches and unites a diversity of
people from different backgrounds – something that fits perfectly with Durban’s uniquely mixed audience.

Forming the band are producer, DJ and keyboardist Dr Duda; singer/songwriter J’Something; and exuberant trumpeter Mo-T. These South African favourites are set to bring an energy to stage, like no other. And they’re excited about it:

“We are nothing without people.” Says J’Something, lead singer of the band. “All we want to do is spread good energy and make people dance. We’re looking forward to growing the familia across the globe, and we’re excited to bring a fresh vibe and perform our new single #TOCA for our Durban family!”

Old Mutual Sponsorship Manager Bandile Mngoma is excited to be back sponsoring the Music at the Lake series. “We know just how important it is to connect with people on platforms that ignite passion, enjoyment and relevance,” says Mngoma. “There is no better way to do that than with the power of the outdoors, community and music combined.”

“The Old Mutual Music at the Lake concert series has contributed immensely to the rise in popularity of outdoor music venues in South Africa. These concerts appeal to young and old and through Old Mutual’s involvement in these events, we are proud to demonstrate our commitment to being a responsible business who cares for the environments and the communities in which we operate.”

Even in the height of winter, Durban will be showing off, and the beauty of the Gardens will not disappoint! With picture perfect picnic spots, an opportunity for families and friends to enjoy each other’s company nestled among nature, all the while supporting local music; there’s no reason not to join Mi Casa and friends for a fun day out.

In addition to the superb experience created on the day, the proceeds from the Music at the Lake concerts are allocated by the Durban Botanic Gardens Trust to projects that assist with the maintenance and sustainability of the Gardens, ensuring it remains a place for all who visit to appreciate and enjoy.

Only 4 000 tickets are available for the Mi Casa concert via www.webtickets.co.za. Early bird tickets cost R140 for adults, R80 for children between 6 and 12, and R20 for children Under 6. Standard ticket prices will go on sale from the 17th of June and the cost is R155 for adults, R100 for children between 6 and 12, and R20 for children Under 6.

Gates will open at 12h30 on Sunday the 30th of June, with the first act taking to the stage
from 13h00. Mi Casa will perform from 15h00. Secure parking is available on the umPhafa field at the Durban Botanic Gardens. Attendees are invited to spend the afternoon picnicking on the beautiful lawns, and are welcome to bring their own food, drink, blankets and camping chairs.

As Kwazulu-Natal’s premiere outdoor music venue, the Durban Botanic Gardens looks
forward to welcoming fans to a total of 5 confirmed shows for the 2019 Old Mutual Music at the Lake series, 7 shows for 2020 and another 7 shows for 2021.

The next show for 2019 will be an afternoon of fun with the Old Mutual Music at the Lake Folk Fest, featuring Freshlyground, Majozi & Louise Carver on Sunday the 28th of July.
