The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra opens its 2026 Spring Symphony Season at Durban’s Playhouse Opera Theatre on Thursday, 12 November at 19:00. Jean-Claude Picard conducts the opening concert, with pianist Polina Osetinskaya joining the orchestra for Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor.
From its opening bell-like chords, the concerto builds towards the sweeping melodies that have made it an audience favourite. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E minor closes the evening with a drama of its own. A quiet theme introduced by the clarinets returns throughout the symphony, eventually becoming a triumphant march.
