Splashy Fenners Gear Up for the Iconic Music Festival in the Underberg Mountains.

South Africa’s longest-running music festival will take place over the traditional Easter weekend from Thursday the 28th of March to Monday the 1st of April 2024, and a stellar line-up of local and international musicians has been released to get fans even more excited for a long weekend of LIVE entertainment.

Thursday will kick off the festivities with a selection of musicians across the 4 unique stage areas. Fans can look forward to the sounds of Carol Souki, Mali Zulu, Qadasi & Maqhinga, and Jerry and the Bandits on the Sedgwicks Acoustic Stage; Tiaan Rivers, Menzi Mbonambi and Tristan Cole Boltman on the magical Treehouse Stage. The Main Stage area will be quiet on Thursday, but only for those not wearing the Silent Disco headsets blasting a selection of golden oldies and latest dance releases in the much-loved Silent Disco.

Across the next 4 days, fans will be spoiled with music across all genres and stages. From the beats of Matt Davies and Tim Lewis, to the gees of 4am, the power of Hot Water, and the stardom of American Authors. There is something for everyone at this year’s festival. Nordista Freeze from the UK to the Dreggs from down under, the Kickstands from Durban, Desmond and the Tutus from Pretoria, the Parlotones from somewhere in Europe, the American Authors, from, er, yeah, you guessed it… America, and our global favourites, the Ndlovu Youth Choir. To name just a handful.

Radio personality Jane Linley Thomas is a Splashy Fen fan of note. This year, she’ll be joining the Splashy crew with her pop-up car boot party, from where she will interview musos, fans, organisers, foodies, crafters, and more.

And of course, as an Easter family destination, there is so much to do over the festival weekend. As a local Underberg resident, Andrew van Rensburg is the festival’s Creative Director and Site Creator. Van Rensburg spends most of his year tending to the Splashy Fen event space, making sure that when fans arrive on site there is hot water in the showers, the hip-high grass is cut, the roads are prepared and the entire site is fully functional and ready to welcome over 6 000 fans for 4 days of fun!

“Join in an Easter service and egg hunt on Sunday,” says van Rensburg. “Try your hand at yoga on a SUP board in the icy but beautiful river, discover your new favourite cocktail at the Klipdrift Splashy Views, catch up with new friends over a cuppa and chocolate-stuffed-croissant in the Marley Coffee Village, feel like a VIP on our Splashy Balcony in the Main Stage area, charge your phone and chillax at the Peaceful Sleep Charging Station, get your festival hair done in the craft village, take the kids for a pony ride, enjoy a morning trail run, sleep in until late, dance around a bonfire under the stars, give belly dancing and drumming a go, buy and wear your Splashy merch with pride, and just get stuck into the magic of being out in the beautiful Underberg with music to listen to and friends to make memories with.”

Splashy Fen 2024 will take place over the traditional Easter weekend from the 28th of March to the 1st of April 6th when festival-goers will experience a long weekend in the picturesque setting of Underberg, enjoying the best Splashy Fen experience to date. Tickets are available at www.splashyfen.co.za. The festival is currently running a group special for 6 tickets, as well as an opportunity to buy a VIP ticket right up close near the main stage with a dedicated bar, ablution and viewing deck. Check out The Balcony tickets online. Grab your friends and get ready for #splashy2024.

Champions Season Kicks Off in Style with a FREE Family Day at Hollywoodbets Greyville

The highly anticipated Champions Season bursts into action on Saturday, 11 April at Hollywoodbets Greyville, setting the tone for South Africa’s premier racing calendar with a vibrant day of top-class racing, entertainment, and family-friendly fun — all completely FREE to attend.

Gates open at 10:00am, inviting racegoers, families, and first-time visitors alike to experience the thrill of the sport in an accessible and festive environment.

At the heart of the day’s racing programme is the Race Coast Sales Big Cap, a R5 million feature that continues to grow in stature following its successful debut and is fast establishing itself as one of the most innovative contests in South African racing.

Run over 1400m, the Big Cap brings together an elite mix of top-class horses and influential slot holders, where strategy and strength play an equally decisive role. The 2025 debut delivered a high-quality and competitive spectacle, showcasing the tactical depth of the slot race concept and setting a strong benchmark for the future.

That foundation adds an extra layer of intrigue to the 2026 renewal, with connections returning more experienced and strategically aware. The contest features a compelling clash of power and depth, headlined by the highest-rated runner in the field, alongside formidable operations such as Snaith Racing. Key slot holders including the Wernars Family, Rikesh Sewgoolam, Ralphs Racing and Peter Moor add further competitiveness, underlining the race’s growing industry significance.

With a substantial stake on offer, R5 million in total, including R3 million to the winner, and increasing attention from across the sport, this is no ordinary race and continues to attract serious investment and participation.

Adding to the excitement is the Race Coast Sales Slipper, a standout juvenile contest run over 1200m with a lucrative R3 million incentive. Together, the Big Cap (R5 million) and Slipper (R3 million) offer a combined R8 million in feature race prize money on the day. Positioned at a key point in the season and staged in KwaZulu-Natal, the Slipper has become increasingly competitive, with top juveniles lining up to contest the rich prize.

The combination of timing, location, and significant stakes ensures that owners and trainers target the race early, aiming to secure a share of the substantial purse. With each running, the quality and depth of the field continues to improve, offering racing fans a glimpse of the next generation of stars.

Beyond the track, the day promises a lively social atmosphere with a mix of entertainment, activations, and relaxed outdoor enjoyment. Whether you’re a seasoned racing enthusiast or simply looking for a great day out in Durban, the opening event delivers something for everyone.

“Champions Season is about more than just elite racing — it’s about creating an inclusive, energetic experience that brings people together,” said Race Coast KZN Acting COO, Dean Sawarjith. “Starting the season with a free, open-to-all event at Hollywoodbets Greyville reflects that spirit perfectly.”

With warm autumn weather, world-class racing, and a welcoming environment, 11 April is set to be the perfect introduction to the excitement of Champions Season.
