Durban, KwaZulu-Natal – South African talent is no stranger to making a name for themselves on the international stage and the Mzansi Youth Choir is one such talent. In May, the choir gave a breathtaking performance that earned them the first ever audience golden buzzer moment on the America’s Got Talent stage. They not only progressed to the semi-finals but also performed in the finals on 26 September 2023. Although they didn’t win, they were invited to perform a traditional song and the Coldplay signature song, Fix You, with Coldplay at two sold-out concerts in San Diego and Los Angeles. The choir is now embarking on a national tour, including a stop in Durban, South Africa on 18 November, where they will make their debut live show appearance.
Established in July 2003 with the aims of affording talented, underprivileged teenagers and young adults (14-24 years) the opportunity to proficiently perform locally and abroad, as well as to package, re-package, and create new African Music, the 50-strong choir from Soweto, celebrate 20 years of existence and are proud to have over 600 young people pass through their hands. Many have gone on to become professionals in their own right. The choir’s motto is to bring love, hope and happiness.
“We are thrilled to be a part of bringing Mzansi Youth Choir back home,” says Tim Lombard, Chief Marketing Officer of Ignition Group. “As an organisation passionate about growing the local economy and creating jobs, this celebration is dedicated to the loyal homeland support base who have been rooting for them on their journey. We are poised to make history by featuring the Canadian duo Neon Dreams performing alongside them for the very first time right here in Durban.”
