STER-KINEKOR RELEASES LUCY IN THE IMAX® THEATRES AT GATEWAY AND THE GROVE

Published

on

Another action-packed film releases on the impressive IMAX® screen this August! All the drama unfolds in the IMAX® theatres at Ster-Kinekor’s cinema complexes at Gateway in Durban and The Grove in Pretoria East, from Friday, 29 August, with the release of Lucy.

The IMAX® release of Lucy has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® using proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX’s customised theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

From La Femme Nikita and The Professional to The Fifth Element, writer/director Luc Besson has created some of the toughest and most memorable female action heroes in cinematic history.  Now, Besson directs Scarlett Johansson and Academy Award® winner Morgan Freeman, in Lucy, an action-thriller releasing on the IMAX screen as a fitting close to Women’s Month here in South Africa.

The film examines the possibility of what one human could truly do if she unlocked 100 percent of her brain capacity to access the further reaches of her mind.

Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) is tricked by her boyfriend into working as a drug mule for the mob in Taipei, Taiwan. She discovers that a drug loaded with a powerful synthetic substance that has been implanted by them into her body, has leaked into her blood stream. As a result, she gains superhuman powers, including the ability to move objects using her mind, choosing not to feel pain and a highly advanced talent to absorb information.

Relentlessly pursued by her former captors, who will kill anyone to extract their product from the woman who has become their greatest adversary, Lucy begins to turn the tables on her captors, as she transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic.

Seeing Lucy in the IMAX® screen promises audiences an immersive cinema experience like no other.
