REVIEW: The Riverside Day Spa
With just a stone’s throw away from the Umgeni River, (depending on how strong your arm is) this hidden gem, with its unostentatious façade is called, The Riverside Day Spa.
Easy to miss, it absolutely shouldn’t be. As one steps through the entrance doors, one is immediately transported from the car park to a calming and ethereal space. With its tasteful Moorish design elements, light and textured walls. Spoiled for choice of teas and coffees, (as well as seating), or water if you simply wanted to hydrate, it’s no wonder that The Riverside Day Spa is simply in a class of its own.

With 6 double rooms, Riverside Day Spa is perfect for a girlfriends’ getaway, special bonding with mum or some romantic pampering with your partner. Each room is beautifully decorated providing a soothing haven for all senses, as tranquil music plays, lights dimmed, and the scent of oils enhance your relaxation.
Louise Davies is the owner and manager of Riverside Day Spa. With a background in public relations, and experience in the retail industry, Louise is well-versed in client relations, and aims to leave every spa customer feeling revived and renewed.
She has spent the last 20 years building her own practice, while studying alternative therapy, including reflexology, swedish massage, indian massage, and reiki healing. Louise, along with her husband, Nic and children, Cameron and Grace, have a vision to see the spa grow continuously, through hard work, dedication and passion.
Upon entering Riverside Day Spa, we were escorted into a beautifully decorated waiting area where we were offered refreshments before our treatments. We took this opportunity to sit down and have a girl’s catch-up while sipping on our tea/coffee.
Once done, our therapists led us into the treatment rooms which immediately felt relaxing. We each had a 30 minute back and neck massage which was heavenly! We left the room feeling like a new person and stress-free.
Following our massages, we each had a choice between a mani and a pedi. As we walked into the next room, we were surprised but delighted to find that our mani and pedi’s were going to be done while lying down! This made the experience far more pleasant as we didn’t have to sit at a table like most salons.
The staff are welcoming and warm, ensuring that your experience is a one-of-a-kind. They certainly do take pride in offering you exceptional service and going out of their way to enhance your visit!

If you’re in need of a little self-care and relaxation, let me introduce you to an absolute gem tucked away in Durban North & Salt Rock — The Skin & Nail Bar.
I recently treated myself to a rejuvenating session here, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of amazing.
My visit started with a 30-minute back, shoulder, and neck massage, and from the moment I stepped into the treatment room, I knew I was in for something special. The space was the most calming I’ve ever experienced — soft candlelight flickered against a beautifully painted pink wall, and the air was filled with the most heavenly scent.
I personally prefer a firm pressure massage, and my therapist delivered exactly what I needed, melting away all the tension in my shoulders and upper back. It was the perfect combination of relaxation and relief, leaving me feeling completely refreshed.
Following my massage, I moved on to a luxurious spa manicure that felt like a true pampering session. This wasn’t just your standard file-and-polish… The treatment included a gentle exfoliation to leave my hands feeling silky smooth, a deeply nourishing mask, and a hand massage that had me nearly drifting off again.
To elevate the experience even further, I was offered a selection of beverages and opted for a cappuccino from the café next door. Sipping on a perfectly brewed cappuccino while getting my nails done? Absolute bliss.
I left with the most gorgeous set of lilac gel nails that I can’t stop looking at.
