Review: Talloula Garden Spa, Botha’s Hill
Two best friends from the Durbanite team decided it was time to have a girlfriend’s getaway at a spa that was not too far, but far enough to call it a getaway.
Talloula is a contemporary function venue nestled in Botha’s Hill, just 5 minutes from Hillcrest, Durban, with a special focus on bespoke weddings & conferences, as well as the home of Treat Cafe and the Talloula Garden Spa.

“We decided on Talloula Spa which is situated in the Valley of a Thousand Hills – just a 30 minute drive from Durban.
So with a small bag each and anticipated excitement, we set off on our short “road trip”.
Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Lydelle and her friendly team. We were encouraged to peruse their menu and to order some drinks, as well as our dinner for later in the evening and of course some cocktails (a lovely selection of gins on offer, might we add!)
Starting our pampering off with a dom pedro each, (we know this was only 2pm but we decided to let our hair down and have fun seeing as we didn’t have to drive home!) We were welcomed by our very friendly therapists, Lungile and Anale and shown to our stunning room for the night, beautifully decorated in all white, with lovely crisp clean percale cotton.
We dropped our bags off, changed into our gowns & slippers and were escorted through lush beautiful gardens up to a tented tree house. All very private, rustic and immaculately set out with everything that was needed for our treatment. We then had the most amazing full body massage which included a body brushing (first one we have ever had and absolutely loved!) Perfect pressure was applied by very skilled hands using lovely fragranced oils. (We will definitely be doing this again!)
After our massage, we relaxed in our room, enjoying our pink G&T’s and eagerly awaited our dinner. My dinner choice was the chargrilled rump steak with chime cherry (Argentinian salsa) served with butternut and roasted garlic puree, a crisp green bean salad and straw fries. Angelique had the Ginger Cilantro grilled Kingklip which was lightly grilled with a hint of ginger, fresh Cilantro and lemon served on sweet potato and steamed green beans.
Both of these meals were so delicious and mouth watering, we of course had to sample each otherās food and couldn’t decide which was better.
Our dessert choices was the baked cheesecake with a mixed berry topping and milk tart cigars. So delicious!
After a peaceful night’s sleep, we woke up feeling refreshed and energised, and very eager to sample more of the delicious food provided at the Treat Cafe.
Our breakfast was the eggs Onassis with salmon and eggs Benedict. Both scrumptious, complete with frothy cappuccinoās. Chef Bheki definitely delivers!
After checking out of our rooms, we had a last look around the beautiful gardens, took some more photos and then headed back to our car, but to our dismay we realised that we had left the lights on and had drained the battery! Thankfully help was provided by our efficient Chef Bheki who gallantly came to our rescue to jump start the car, ensuring we got home safely.
Talloula Spa is most certainly to be recommended, their hospitality, efficiency and attention to detail is five star.
We will definitely be back again for more pampering.

For Durbanites, a trip to Cape Town is always enthralling. White-sand beaches, throngs of restaurants, and sea life sightings are just some of the things we look forward to when visiting our Mother City. Of course, the various accommodation on offer forms part of said hype ā and can either make or break your experience!
Well, weāre here to tell you this: If youāre looking for a hotel thatās contemporary, comfy, central, quiet and not too costly, weāve found the place for you. Not to mention its fascinating decor, great hospitality, and luxury charm that just wraps you up and keeps you snug throughout your entire stay.
The opulent Cape Milner building matches Cape Townās Victorian aesthetic. But inside youāll find a mix of art-deco, modern and African chic; much like the feel of modern Africa today.
As if wedged at the bottom of Table Mountain, the views from the rooms and lounges are spectacular. We particularly enjoyed dining out in the swanky Glass Lounge, where you can look up into the blue sky or night stars while you enjoy a hearty lamb shank below.
Our homely rooms overlooked the serene Milner Road, with its impressive avenues of trees. We were given complimentary macarons on arrival and enjoyed them with tea as we watched the rain pitter-patter on the tails of unbothered squirrels ā how cute! The Milner Hotel really is a place you can enjoy come rain or shine.
The hotel was the absolute, perfect base from which to explore pretty much everything and anything. Just a few minutes drive away lies Bree and KloofĀ ā two favourites, Metropolitan streets for tourists and locals alike. Over the few days of our stay we visited many great spots, all within 5-10 minutes away.
We sank our teeth into cheesy pizza at the much-hyped āI love the doughā and tried out āMochi Mochi” for dessert; we ordered fizzing and steaming cocktails from āCause and Effectā at the V&A; and of course, we spent a fun-filled evening at the cheeky and illustrious āBeefcakesā in Green Point.
After each jam-packed day, coming home to our state-of-the-art bathtub and luxurious linen was the cherry on top. It fitted in perfectly with our diverse range of activities we had planned, and matched the entire style of our trip.
We didnāt want to leave!
