uShaka Marine World will be celebrating two special events this coming weekend. With Women’s Day on Saturday, 9th August and National Science Week, an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology, being celebrated countrywide between 4th– 10th August 2014 it is sure to be a fun filled weekend for all.
From 6th – 8th August, an all ladies team of uShaka Sea World Educators will be hosting 60 learners per day from 4 different schools selected by the Department of Education. The selected schools have shown particular interest in wanting to learn more about marine based science and this year the theme for Science Week is “today’s science is tomorrow’s world,” which fits right in with the school programme for 2014, because not only will the learners discover what it takes to become a Marine Scientist but they will learn the South African importance of young people embracing science and technology.
You can also catch the Marine Science Exhibition from 9am – 4pm between 8th – 10th August at uShaka’s Village Walk Beach Mall where scientists and marine educators will be on hand to share their love of science and discovery. Science is more than test tubes, microscopes and laboratories but about fisheries, migratory patterns, fish stocks, populations, benthic health, ocean currents and so much more.
Plus on 9th August, the HIP2B2 iTHINK Challenge will be filmed live in the Village Walk Arena 3 which forms part the regional competition with the school finalists competing against one another to win.
What visitors can also expect to see on Saturday is an array of exciting features including henna painters, discounted Patdee and Mangwanani Spa massages as well as loads of musical entertainment which will centre on female entertainers with resident band Afritude being accompanied by talented female vocalist Stacey-Lee Erasmus who will be performing at Wahooz on the uShaka promenade on the day to serenade all our women visitors, as well as Oma Ma Boxolo (performing isigekle) who will be perfomring in Arena 1 and 5 throughout the day – so come down and celebrate with us this weekend!
Don’t forget – uShaka is also boasting a new Dolphin Stadium, so why not pop by for the amazing new show and not only spoil mom, but the family as well!
