Liquid Adventures offers several exciting, exhilarating adventures… one of which is River Rafting. This is offered to individuals, groups as well as corporates and it all begins at the Hella Hella Outdoor Adventure Centre, situated just outside Richmond (only 1 ½ hrs from Durban, and 30 mins from Pmb).
The Mkomazi River boasts Grade 3 rapids, which step-up to Grade 4 if there’s been sufficient rain. The section from Hella Hella to Number 8 is regarded as the biggest traversable Whitewater south of the Zambezi.
Rafting in an inflatable 2 man canoe, can prove to be more adventurous and fun than ever imagined!
The challenge is not only negotiating the twist and turns, but also mastering the rapids, whilst enjoying the astonishing views along the quieter sections of the river. Be prepared for a bit of work-out as you will be paddling your own boats…
A typical Half day would be as follows :
- Meet at Highover (22kms from Richmond) at around 9am.
- Safety briefing, paddling demo and get kitted up.
- Travel 6 kms upstream of Highover and begin with some paddling exercises to ensure you know how to steer and control your craft.
- Get on the river by 10am in your very own inflatable self-paddling 2-man Crocs.
- You will then start the trip downstream back towards Highover where you will encounter no less than 10 class 2 and 3 rapids.
- You will also be given the opportunity to do some Zip-lining and rock jumping during the trip (at Highover).
- After your snack break, we will then continue on for another 3 kms encountering the notorious No.1 rapid.
- After No.1 rapid you will end the half-day trip, giving you approx. 3 hours on the river and end up covering about 9 kms.
- Once completed, you will get driven back to Highover where your cars were left (phew!)
- Grab a warm shower and some liquid refreshments of the amber colour…
On the full day trip, you will continue on for another 5 kms covering the well-known No.2 and No.3 rapids – a total of 14 kms.

At all times the trip and paddlers will adopt a safety first, safety always and NO compromise mindset, with a when in doubt, get out rule and NO alcohol on river. This adventure is fine for complete novices who have NEVER even paddled before.
Trips can be arranged for any day – weekdays or weekends, as long as there is sufficient water in the river, and that you have at least 4 people for that trip.
FACT VS FICTION
Fact- you will get wet.
Fiction- the rafts are engine propelled.
Fact- guides can walk on water. (?)
Fiction- the last sighting of a crocodile is the one on which you will be rafting on.
