uShaka Marine World a World of its own

Published

on

“Unlimited Fun” is the motto at uShaka Marine World, and there isn’t a more accurate and true statement to describe the fun park which is one of the most popular tourist attractions in our beautiful city of Durban.

I was lucky enough to be taken on an adventure for the day, to explore the park and all that it has to offer and now, I get to share all that uShaka has to offer… with YOU!

Dangerous Creatures (and some creepy crawlies)

Upon entering the Village Walk, we found some very alluring Dangerous Creatures on exhibit for the whole family. If you are wanting to pay the exhibit a visit you can be sure to see some exciting reptilians, including but not limited to the Black Throated Monitors (A.k.a The Dragons), Dart Frogs, Tarantulas and the venomous False Water Cobra! If you enjoy creepy crawlies, then this exhibit is for you and best thing, they are open ALL YEAR ROUND!

Sea World

Set inside an old ship wreck on its very own island, Sea World is home to a variety of beautiful and interesting underwater creatures.

It is here you can go to a live Dolphin, Penguin / Seal show (daily)…the shows are fun and aimed at educating the public and as always, a strong message of conservation is conveyed in a way that is understood by all ages. The beautifully manicured gardens and pathways lead you around different pools and areas to explore.

If you have a love of dolphins or just curious how sharks interact, then you definitely have to make a plan to visit and try one of the Sea Animal Encounters – surely a once in a lifetime experience – from the Xpanda Shark Dive (for the BRAVER humans beings out there) to a Dolphin Encounter, live feeds, snorkeling and the Ocean Walker – you may just need more than one day here to do everything your heart desires!

Wet ‘n Wild caters for all, from families coming to relax for the day to the adrenaline junkies out there! It boasts the highest slide in Africa, which is an 18m drop, and will certainly get your adrenaline pumping and your heart racing! There is also the Body Tornado, the Mamba Tunnel Slide, as well as the Supertubes and much more for all to enjoy. Kids can enjoy splashing around in a designated kiddies pool, while the adults who need some ‘RNR’ can relax and unwind in the adult pool (yes please!)

If you are visiting uShaka Marine World for the first time, or are a regular, you can be assured you will have a good time, go home happy and have learnt something new. No matter which experience you choose you can be sure it will be educational, interactive and fun.

BUMP & GRIND at Talloula

Published

on

Durban comedy favourites Aaron McIlroy and Lisa Bobbert-McIlroy return to Talloula with their new musical comedy –  BUMP & GRIND, a high-energy musical sketch comedy that delivers a riotous mix of song, dance, quick-fire character comedy and heart. Created under the direction and choreography of Daisy Spencer, the show has already delighted audiences this festive season with its trademark MacBob mayhem and polish.

Described by Billy Suter as “a sparkly cracker of song, dance and off-the-wall humour,” BUMP & GRIND is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud theatrical experience. The show tumbles through a helter-skelter parade of characters — from fan favourites Bruce and Charmaine, as Elvis impersonators, pensioners Beatrice and Max, and super-sage Dr Veejay, to bold new creations including AI androids, Latin dance sensations and an Irish preacher with stand-up ambitions.

The music includes numbers from Talking Heads, Lady Gaga, Elvis, The Beatles, Whitney Houston and a climactic medley of ’80s chart hits.

“It’s a vibe… Aaron and Lisa’s talent and skill lie in their seemingly effortless transformations from one character to another — and making every dance hit and ballad that character’s own!” Shannon Kenny (ArtSmart)

With broad family appeal, high energy and a proven track record of sold-out runs, don’t miss BUMP & GRIND at Talloula at the end of January!

Review: Bouquet Building at See Café

Published

on

A Floral Treat in the Upper Highway

If you’re in the Upper Highway area and looking for something fresh, creative, and soul-nourishing to do, don’t miss the Bouquet Building events at See Café in Hillcrest. We recently attended one and it was absolutely delightful — the kind of morning that leaves you smiling long after the last stem is snipped.

Held twice a month, this beautifully curated experience is a must for flower lovers — or anyone in need of a little peace, beauty and joy.

For under R300 per person, all the beautiful, fresh high-quality blooms are provided (seriously, the kind you’d never find at this price in a ready-made bouquet elsewhere). You just bring yourself and your creativity! It’s a hands-on, joy-filled session where you get to design and build your own bouquet from scratch, with guidance if you need it. It’s real value for money, with a big dose of creativity and fun!

Whether you choose to gift your masterpiece to someone special or keep it as a cheerful centrepiece at home (that lasts for weeks), it’s a heartwarming and fulfilling way to spend a morning.

Even better? For a (ridiculously reasonable) extra cost, you can enjoy a delicious coffee and breakfast from See Café while you create — and trust me, the vibe is just as wonderful as the food. (Click here to see their menu) The setting is intimate and cozy, the energy is uplifting, and there’s a lovely sense of community as you chat with fellow flower lovers. Plus, they’re dog-friendly for outside seating, so your furry friend can tag along and enjoy the fresh air while you build your bouquet!

This event is definitely a must-do in Durban. It’s ideal for a solo treat, a girls’ morning out, or even a unique gift experience. Whether you’re a seasoned flower arranger or just in it for the fun, it’s well worth it!

Follow See Café on social media here to keep an eye out for the next event – you won’t want to miss it. Your bouquet (and your soul) will thank you.

Click here to watch our reel of the event and see what you can look forward to when you attend!
